The argument that there should be a soft launch because it will eliminate or reduce the chance of press criticism is nonsense.

Daybreak got a high profile launch and was ridiculed because the hosts deemed were out of touch with the viewers. Channel 4's RI:SE had a deliberate soft launch and fizzled out because it wasn't a great programme (still facing a lot of press criticism by the way)

Soft or hard launch, if the new Daybreak is worthy enough, it will prove popular, but surely if the network is confident enough with the new look, they wouldn't think twice about giving it a big launch?

I don't really see the issue with a big launch this time around purely because Lorraine has been on breakfast TV for years, and anything on the last launch is going to be seen as an improvement regardless of how good or bad it is.

Has it been mentioned that Jim Mann (of Lightwell fame) has been working on the new Daybreak?

According to Jim Mann's twitter, there is a security block on publishing pics of the new set.

ITV not taking the Broadcasting House approach, then. After the furore about Daybreak's windows, I suppose they don't want the new set torn apart before they've even got it on air.

Looks like there could be a press blitz next weekend if they're doing that! I'm intrigued to know whats so different about it to have to have security like that. And if they've built it already, I wonder if it will be a fixed set and Loose Women/any other shows that use studio 3 will have to relocate?

Excuse my ignorance, but Studio 3 isn't HD at the moment, having watched Lorraine. When is it getting fitted out and how long does it take to upgrade equipment, circuits etc.?

Lightwell is involved, so you'd assume virtual extensions on screens will be playing a major role in the set. Perhaps it'll function as a multipurpose set for all the shows, with just the backgrounds and lighting changing. I don't think they'll attempt anything cutting edge after the poor reception Daybreak received.

I wasn't that familiar with their work but after looking into it, I can only imagine it will just look like the BBC Breakfast set before it moved to Salford, perhaps with some laminate flooring and flowers in the background for that 'homely' feel. Will be interesting to see if they use the same set for both Daybreak & Lorraine and just relight it or if they'll somehow fit Lorraine's existing set in. It would be a shame if they ditched it, it easily has another year or two left in it.
