Uurrgh that Look North sidebar text looks stupid in the middle of the screen, what's even more stupid is it returns to the top of the screen on the Belmont sub-opt, consistency would be nice here.

It stays at the top during all other bulletins as well

Oh great(!) Look North have moved the name further down the side bars. Seems like the DOG is here to stay... Sad

Cheers, Asa
I'm not really sure about the new positioning of the NW tonight one either to be honest, oh well, back to watching the local news on Terrestrial!

Suppose this Satellite will come in useful when the regions move to 16:9, does anyone know when this is planned, if at all?

Cheers,

If it were possible to switch channel 101 between different feeds dynamically on a postcode basis - there would still be a major disturbance at switch junction as the digibox would have to re-tune to a different transponder, and  re-sync to a different MPEG2 stream.  This would effectively leave you with a blue screen for a couple of seconds (as long as you get when you change channels)
Really? Then how do they kick us out of the service at 7pm with a little 'click' and a static picture for 1/2-1 second?

Cheers, Asa

1. They are masking the blue screen by freezing instead. The length of time of the disturbance also depends on the speed of the receiver (old boxes slower than new one) and the position of both BBC One streams in the MPEG GOP (Group of Pictures) stream. If the Beeb decide to change the GOPs to change compression settings the distrubance could get longer, or shorter. The disturbance is still deemed unacceptable as part of a main broadcast channel - and only acceptable at the return as it is the only option (other than a full-screen graphic telling you the service is over)

2. The ability to postcode jump to different regions automatically is not available to the digibox. The jump back is not postcoded directly - as the jump is triggered on all regions at the same time, back to a single channel. The regional application can only be run by English postcodes - so the application itself currently needs no postcode info, or digibox storage.

Couple of things from me:

Not sure if it's been mentioned but the BBC Regional Current Affairs programmes currently on Thursdays on BBC Two at 7.30pm will move from September to BBC One on Mondays at 7.30pm and will alternative year-round with the national current affairs programme 4x4.

As for people saying the BBC is so London biased then I think they know and are trying to go some way to rectify this by posting a correspondent who always seems to be on screens at the moment (especially on the Six) to Leeds from March... I think more moves to Leeds can be expected in the near future.

Couldn't be referring to a recently announced move from Environment to Social Affairs (based in Leeds) could you?

I didn't give it away... it was the BBC man! Although I hope we can still see as much and more of the brilliant and lovely Catherine Marston...

I was quite impressed that they can actually throw you out at the end of the programme - I haven't seen anyone do this before so assumed it wasn't possible - tried to trick it tonight by being in a menu at the time but it makes no difference.

Once satellite goes back to being just an add-on service to 'normal  telly', I can't see the BBC being able to justify paying to be available on Sky when they are available to everyone through an aeriel anyway.
That's assuming 13(?) million people pay £100 for free DTT coverage (or they buy a new tv).

yeah, but analogue switchoff will be at least 6 or 7 years away, most people will change their main TV set anyway in that time - they don't last that long any more.

What they should do is insist that ALL TV sets are sold with digital tuners (with analogue tuners as well of course). This means that digital takeup will increase and the price of digital TV hardware will decrease

Seriously though, most people are just going to see London on there, not bother to press the red button and just press '1' on their TV remote.

A friend of mine cannot recieve analogue terrestrial TV anywhere in her house. This is because her aerial was broken in stormy weather about 2 years ago. The reason she's never bothered to get it fixed is cuz she already had Sky Digital in her house by the time she lost aerial use, so she could still get the five channels.

Well actually, she could only get four out of the five until very recently cuz ITV1 wasn't on digi-sat of course. But she didn't miss that channel enough to want it back urgently.

As time has gone, the prospect of getting a new aerial has naturally slipped so far down the list of priorities that it's just not even a consideration anymore.

Perhaps the BBC realise that situtions like that of my friend may exist, and therefore they can't assume that everyone does indeed have the option of pressing 'tv' then button '1' on their handsets. Therefore they have to make the digi-sat situation more (albeit only slightly more) than just bunging LDN on.

Think it is a bit harsh to describe Gillian as crappy...  She's one of the better LDN presenters!  (Wait until you meet Emily...)

Actually I used to work with Emily - she was and still is great.
And her leather trousers.... well need I say more. Razz:

By the way if you want a laugh (particularly all in the forum who work for BBC Online.... ) take a look at:
