Some technical problems on last nights Look North late bulletin. They were live at an OB for the olympic torch with a two camera set-up. However the second camera they were using failed. This meant when they crossed to the weather with Paul, Jeff stayed in shot and the camera kept zooming in on his face (presumably to focus correctly for the closing shot) with the weather graphics overlayed. Eventually the producer obviously decided to cut to the graphics only, meaning the viewers got to see the chroma (pink) background where the video is normally overlayed. And if that ain't enough, they also crashed back into the network weather....lovely! Laughing

NE&C opted out for 30 minutes at 7pm to continue coverage of Bear Grylls zipwiring off the Tyne Bridge with that torch thing. The main camera feed with Carol Malia dropped at one point, leaving Dawn Thewlis to fill like mad but not a bad little production overall. And the handover to Lineker & co. was handled as well as could have been expected, with Colin Briggs playing announcer over a split screen of the Quayside and the Salford studio; will try and get a cap up tomorrow.

Also *shocked* to see Tyne Tees giving out the address "tttv@itv.com" for viewers to email torch-related imagery to.

No dedicated weather presenter at ITV, instead we've a freelancer, news producer and utilising from the neighbouring region... Surely for consistency and viewer familiarity it would be better to hire a permanent replacement?

Edit: John Bevir and Rachel Bullock have returned as reporters.

Wonder how the Tyne Tees shed is holding up, with photos on Twitter of the nearby Metro Centre evacuated due to flooding.

NET is on air anyway; the lack of a permanent weather/environment correspondent is being shown up now. Instead, we've got a random woman on explaining that flooding is caused by excess surface water from heavy downpours of rain.

Can't tell you what they're deliberating over at present as both Sky and Freeview have keeled over. SANDBAGS!

It was such a horrible join back into the recorded version of NET tonight. Headlines before the broadcast with no mentions of flooding, welcome which was pan-regional welcoming viewers / info on floods and then a cut back to the recorded show (with the hello's hacked off the beginning). Not sure what Border did, but I bet it was nicer as it seem they have the live tonight.

BBC Look North had a breakdown at the start of the show. The recorded introduction never played, along with the titles, meaning a few silences and filling from Carol.

Was anybody watching the Six O'Clock News on BBC2 analogue in the North East? Did Look North opt out during the headlines (as the only English region who still can) or did they take the News Channel sport bits?

No opt out, just the News Channel sports headlines. I don't think even we bother with opt outs on BBC 2 these days up here.

Fred Talbot presenting ITV Border & ITV Tyne Tees weather for next few days... his quirky style made a pleasant change.

And tonight was Ross Hutchinson's first night as TTTV/Border's new weather presenter, he seems nice enough.

Also, Simon O'Rourke did a live two-way from Olympic Park, seemingly from the same pitch London Tonight use...

Ross Hutchinson was decent, sounds like another (al la Philippa) who is 'news presenter' who's done the weather training at Anglia. He has on twitter 'ITV North' weather presenter, so I presume he will do YTV cover.

Been back in the Borders over the summer and seeing a bit of Lookaround again, weird seeing 1 or 2 ex-reporters back from pre-merger days like Andy Burn!! the Last 15 mins have seemed to drop in quality of late.

As much as I am not a fan of further cuts, Something tells me the new proposed 17 regions again for at least 20 mins could be a good idea.

Ross did both news and weather at Anglia but before joining Tyne Tees/Border he did some further weather training.

Andy Burn seems a regular reporter nowadays, although he is probably cover/freelance.

Edit: Any ideas why they are unable to do split Daybreak updates/lunchtime bulletin? Is West/Westcountry an exception because of a negative response?
