Looks like the section in front of the desk is some kind of screen.

It just looked like a basic uplit perspex element in the renders, but the way it seems to be illuminated on one side only suggests it's actually some kind of LED screen. Though perhaps it is the former, and it's just protective film reflecting light - You don't often see things like that added to sets which aren't present in renders, it's usually the reverse!

It was in the renders...

So it was! I was only going on the images found on BBC Worldwide's site - that render seems to indicate it will operate in a similar way to the thing hanging above the newsroom.

Been lurking here for a while - finally got an account!

That is exactly what I was thinking - hopefully it will tie some common visual elements together in each of the studios. Could it also suggest the newsroom and surrounding balconies could be used as pres space with that theme visible from anywhere? Interesting...

Neat technology, though the loop itself is pretty boring. Set pictures please!

Radio 4's PM Programme's daily newsletter by Eddie Mair said the following today:

Quote:
A date for your diary: December 6th, 2012. That's when PM will once again be broadcast from Broadcasting House, after a gap of 14 years. This morning I had my induction to the new central London building and got to sit in the new studio and test (and break) the new chair. If I knew how to send photos in this email I would. We will work like demons to ensure you don't notice the difference.

I notice that the BBC logo has been taken off the front of Studio 1! Shocked Has that been down for long?

That article was published over a year ago, so presumably the logo has been put back up since.

I think that was probably just maintanence or cleaning. For example, I just searched "BBC Television Centre" on Twitter and someone has uploaded this 1 hour ago to Instagram showing Studio 1 with the BBC logo: http://instagr.am/p/Lkc6xQAkhq/
