What a very sad ending to a very promising concept. Axed after four weeks of a new format, without a proper last show. STV needs something like this, they need something unique, something local - a Scottish One Show. But this isn't it.
We had that in The Five Thirty Show, which had great ratings, better than what the Hour had at 5pm. But in true STV style, they can't just let things be. They have to go changing and when they change it never works.
Lunchtime Scotland Today used to be good back in the day, when Angus & Kirsty/Louise presented it. Then they started having everyone present is. Angus was like Stephen Jardine and Rachel McTavish good at soft/warm news and lifestyle.
Also look at the STV Sports Centre. It was well received and ratings where really good, but that I bet was pulled as they could not afford to have that, The Hour and Scotland Tonight. Their wee lost Gerry McCulloch, he would have been 10 times better than Tam Cowan!
People like that leave and your stuck with the likes of Michelle McManus and Tam Cowan.
I remember when STV reared presenters. Esp ones with the soft/warm lifestyle quaility. Nick Dixon, Aileen Taylor, Kaye Adams, Isla Traquair, Sarah Mack!
Now they have no one! The goods ones are alaway working for BBC or ITV!
Get a grip STV!
I say bring back the Five Thirty Show with Gerry McCulloch & Rachel McTavish and start to warm others into the roles or presenters, like Kelly Ann Bishop, Vicky Lee and even Euan Wemyss from Aberdeen.
