Broadcasting House, Salford Quays & TVC

I guess they are trying to avoid using the Broadcast phrase to avoid confusion - particularly with New Broadcasting House in Oxford Road, Broadcasting House in W1, and The Broadcast Centre in W12. Already people often turn up in W1 when they should be in W12 or vice-versa...

Personally I quite like Pacific Quay as a name - and have no real issue with Dock, Bridge and Quay to describe the Salford buildings. Better to have a name rooted in reality than some "concept".

Given that the BBC has already distanced itself from TV and Radio (now Vision and Audio&Music internally) to prepare itself for an age when pictures aren't delivered purely by TV and sound purely by Radio - these building names seem more futureproof than calling a building Television Centre.

Yes I suppose "Dock House" is more timeless than "Television Centre", although the latter still has more majesty to it. I suppose the modern equivalents would be "Platform-agnostic House", "Viral-marketing House", "Mutli-platform House" and "360 degree immersive media experiences House" and "Social Viewing House", and if that were the case, Dock House is preferable.

Or they could have called White City, erm... White City!

I'm sure the Mail will go apoplectic when they spot this...

Radio 4 to evacuate to Second World War base

Strange that they're not using the studio at TV Centre which the early shift continuity announcer/Today newsreader uses to open up the station.

Where are BBC London and the Arabic and Persian services going? I presume N9 will feature for one of the TV services.

I would have thought the move to Wood Norton is more so they can make a feature of it. There is no practical advantage I can think of for it to go there.

This must be the testing that has been spoke about when they connect up old BH to the news centre which has been built at the back, and possibly the Egton wing too - and see if it all works together.

If this is the case, and it does all work, we can't be far away from the building being finished can we?

So will BBC News be coming from BH in 2011?

Could London not come from Millbank (that is where The Daily Politics comes from?), given its few bulletins could presumably fit around current programmes, with Persian or Arabic coming from N9. Where could the other broadcast from?

I'm sure a temporary studio and production facilities could set up somewhere, even if they just set themselves up in a studio at TV Centre for a few weeks, with newsroom on the studio floor. Maybe they'll use Bush House in some way. I don't know how possible it would be to rig up a couple of small temporary TV studios there.

It's worth remembering that all 3 have radio services to re-house too, Bush House was home to Persian and Arabic until they moved to BH and BBC London radio was there for a while many years ago

Radio 4 - This whole situation is very odd. I mean, shurly there has to be spare studio capacity 'around the corner' in Western House, or even at Yealding House - but decamping to Worcestershire for three weeks?

As in BBC London's original home? The lease with the BBC ended, I seem to recall. Not sure what its being used for now, though.
