Natasha leaving/ not returning to Five News? Can't say she'd be particularly missed, given that her lack of time on-screen doesn't seem to affect ratings particularly. Hard to see where she'd go next, though.
I wonder if the new bosses at Five will make her a better deal than the old bosses who were there when she went on maternity leave?
Surely her bosses are the same, though. She's employed by Sky, who have a contract to produce Five's news. Unless Channel 5 are willing to pay Sky more, I suspect her bosses' stance will be unchanged.
Be interesting to see what stance Channel 5 take on News long term - it's hard to see how Channel 5 can in any way profitably compete with the BBC or ITV, convenience of Sky itself or credibility of Channel 4. Doesn't leave you with many directions, does it?

Wth the Channel 5 rebrand, they most obviously will have to rvamp their news output. Axe Natasha! That's what I say. Budget cuts and all that. Inject new blood, maybe employees from Sky News. Charlotte Hawkins?

Do you want to actually give a reason for axing Natasha, or have you simply decided? Also, the only part of the current "Five News" branding that really reflects the channel's brand is the name and logo - both things that can be easily changed. A full-out revamp costs money, and while I think it's likely they will go down that road, you wouldn't need to do much to keep it aligned with the channel.
Similarly, Live From Studio Five could easily (but not pleasantly) become Live From Studio 5, though I'm hoping they just axe it and replace it with decent programming.

I always thought she was freelance. I'm sure i read that somewhere on here or DS before.

I very much doubt that - if I remember correctly she was tied into a golden handcuffs deal with Five. Remember there is a difference between being a freelancer and being a contractor, in the same way as there is between being a contractor and an employee. Presenters & newsreaders tend to be on contracts, but "freelancer" suggests they can, and usually do, move about, have no set contract or exclusivity and rarely appear in publicity.

Natasha Kaplinsky will lose more than £100,000 in pay for becoming a mother.
The new face of Channel Five news will not receive a penny in maternity pay because she was hired as a freelance.

Rebrand Live from Studio Five to STUDIO5 and make it completely entertainment focused ala E! News. Axe Ian, Jayne and Kate. Replace them with Live from Studio Five reporter Minnie and a new male face. Make it young and fun, quick-paced.
Natasha costs too much money which could be used for more quality programming for Channel 5. Thus why she should be let go.
Helen Fospero has already presented Five News which puts her out of the race. Emma Crosby is a good possibility. She'd be happy with a £100,000-£200,000 pay packet I think.
I think a revamp will deffinately be on the cards now, to make the space more flexible for both 'Live from Studio Five' and Channel 5 News. This will make it easier to change between the programmes and means they can have guests in the studio for Channel 5 News at 7.
Five News doesn't need a direct replacement for Natasha. Matt Barbet is perfectly capable. They would do a lot better reinvesting the salary savings into the content (I.e. the reports) of the programme
