The comissioning site still states it must be included on all in-house and co-produced programming, however the page doesn't seem to have been updated in a long time. Also of note the EastEnders titles have a drop shadow on the logo, which the comissioning guidelines clearly state the logo must not have, so it would appear the BBC is easing off requirements.

It also mentions animating the BBC Logo, which is done by the in house standard production endcap.

I'm not sure why they added the drop shadow because it doesn't enhance the EE logo in any way, it just makes the picture look fussy and cluttered, especially at the end of the programme when they've got the BBC3 repeat caption up as well as the production caption. The BBC3 logo doesn't look good as part of a block of small text either.
It strikes me as incongruous and unnecessary each time I see it. I guess they did it because they could, not because it actually needed doing.

When I first saw it, it just struck me as awful. On subsequent viewings, I noticed that it looks as though they've done it to try and show the fact that the logos were actually floating above London, hence the massive shadow so far away from the actual logos. Doesn't stop it from looking awful though.

I noticed, whilst watching Top Gear on Dave the other day, that the titles did contain a BBC logo but not in the way we know it over here. It was a BBC Worldwide-style box (without Worldwide on it) which animated on with some random circles in the bottom centre.
I think it was an episode from the series before last.

The [B][B][C] logo is being replaced with...
http://www.dwdl.de/images/1250864912.jpg
Some programming which has been re-sold to other broadcasters, such as Dave, GOLD and Watch, have already had the logo superimposed on the titles. The same applies to all programming on First Great Western's Volo TV Service (on-demand TV).
I quite like the new logo... animation is a bit poor though!

The BBC Worldwide logo which is used on Worldwide-sold programming is...

The new BBC logo is used on programming which has been MADE for the BBC by an independent production company (such as ITV Studios).
On VOLO TV (which is an independent On-Demand service on (some) First Great Western HSTs (Coach D) and the Night Riviera Sleeper) they apparently purchase their programming direct from the production company. Hence, after watching University Challenge on Volo in the sleeper the following end-board came up... (apologies for the quality):
The beginning of the programme had the new-style BBC logo on too.
That's only on programmes sold by Worldwide though

The BBC logo was added for help with widescreen broadcasts. Most shows have the BBC logo in the centre on the bottom of the screen. If this logo was out of the centre, there was something wrong with your picture. I don't think it was intended for consumers, but technicians and broadcasters. Programmes that weren't widescreen still used it, although EastEnders put it in the top-left for a short period before the new title sequence in 1999 also moved the logo into the centre signalling the move to widescreen.
Now that most, if not all, programmes are in widescreen the BBC logo is put wherever on the screen or not used at all. I wouldn't be surprised if it was being phased out.

Interesting, although I'd have thought that Worldwide is still involved in distributing those programmes (VOLO aren't going to want to faff around contacting multiple producers). My point was more that you won't see that logo on the BBC, only on third party services showing their programmes
