I think ITV1's logo is too weak to do anything clever with, the only thing it can really do is slide open and that's pretty boring. To use CGI objects to form the logo is, as you say, nothing more than what Five have been doing. All you can really do is have something clever or interesting around it, which is what they're doing now.
This is one of the reasons I'm not too supportive of unified looks across several channels. Each channel shows something different for a different audience, yet they all have the same logo apart from the colour and number. I much prefer unique and strong brands for each individual channel to one that stretches across 4 different channels and various other services, and logos that are much more a part of the ident than just a sticker in the corner.
I'm using... er... Illustrator *cough*10*cough*

Looks very impressive at the moment, I've always thought that it would look good to have the yellow objects somehow form the itv1 logo, you could say that this is what 4 and five have been doing, but maybe if its a CGI scene rather than film enhanced it may have a different appeal and feel, just an idea.

Impressive. Are you using Illustrator CS3? I bought the Master Collection (academic) back in August. It's lightyears better than CS2 (Ilustrator crashed a lot on my machine).
It's very bright and fresh looking. I really like it.

That's very interesting but true, as I recall ITV saying the new logos would allow each channel to have its own identity. That sort of failed didn't it? It would be interesting to see how you would create individual logos that still were obviously ITV but had their own distinct identities.
Do you think the focus should be on the style of the numeral, or everything about the logo?
Ahh, it's a face...!
Not a strong enough image I don't think - or would there be lots of images formed out of flowers?

The CITV logo manages to escape from the "open drawer" style while still including the ITV lettering...

Its not the best logo in the world, but stronger than it would've been had they used something like this...

I think focussing on making logos out of the numbers, then tagging the ITV logo on somehow would work better.
There would be an image formed by the flowers or dots, only for a second before splitting up, flying around, in between the logo and forming something else. There would be a hell of a lot of detail, and a sense of being taken on a little journey with the camera panning around and moving through the shapes, similar to the ITV1 idents, but of course this is all completely CGI.

How would that be achieved? A similar way to BBC's 1 & 2 in the 90's?
I am a fan of unified logos for the fact that they bring the company together, but as you say that are very limited as to what they can do.
Saying that the other channels seem to work well, I still believe that the problem with ITV1 is the fact that it is the main channel so it has to appeal from everything through kids, teens, young adults, families, older adults and the elderly generation.
Thats why in my opinion I think the current brand is weak as its bland in musical score, and seems to try and aim at everyone, without aiming at anyone.
The celebs worked as they were promoting the channel and recognisable faces (a very good concept, if it had been carried out better), as did the CGI idents, because thats all they were, there was nothing else to them, which was good in a way. The originals in 2006 were in my opinion a good brand, again not carried out well through production, and may have been better if the scenes in them had integrated into the logo somehow, or had the logo integrate into the scene, obviously these are just my ramblings.

Yes, but unlike those BBC 1 & 2 idents from the 90's where the BBC logo was placed at the bottom of the screen, on these, the ITV logo would be attached to the number.

I think ITV1 could be much more lively than it is right now, its just bland and sleepy. I don't get why big Saturday night entertainment shows are preceded by a bunch of moths around a street lamp, or a man faffing about in a boat. As visually interesting as some of those idents are, they just don't make sense.

I think it is meant to be an artistic representation of how interesting their shows are.
I like your logos, but did you mean to have a sort of heart shape in ITV2?

I shrug, they're good and I love someone who can get into ol' Illo and kick out something purty but... as said before, flowers using the airbrush tool is done!
Um, them logos, nice though they are, lack the graphical "oomph" you got from the 90's BBC1 and BBC2 logo. Can't say what it is though, something just doesn't say "this is ITVx" about either.
