Nice mess-up tonight on UTV Live going into the Ireland rugby report - instead of going from a caption into a report, the next aston appeared on screen instead of a wipe into the report...

See Neil had to make do with an Irish rugby umbrella in Killiney instead of a UTV umbrella Smile

They do. Whilst Chris is elsewhere, they've got someone else going there. Expect Newsline specials left right and centre whatever happens when a decision (if any) is made.

I have heard BBC have pulled Chris out of the trial.

... because he's working on this youth debate series at the moment.

And he's been doing them well. I'm not just saying that because of my well-documented views about Chris... Smile

I had a feeling they would have done last night's debate at Foyle & Londonderry College... given that it's the nearest secondary school to the Radio Foyle studios Smile

Onto tonight - and anyone see Paul Clark's impression of a parrot on UTV Live? Will anticipate what they did on Newsline... from the looks of it, Mark was on his own tonight so perhaps not.

I've not looked at the figures myself, but I hear that Newsline's audience is rising significantly while UTV Live's is falling.

Does anyone know how close they are?

I can see why Newsline is gaining ground quickly - it's slicker and smoother than UTV Live and has got better at the mix between serious news and lighter items, and Donna and Noel work better together and are more enjoyable to watch than Paul and Kate/Lynda et al.

It's Newry next week for "Tolerence" and then the following week in Belfast for well... whatever happens as a result of 24th November! I believe it's actually doing rather well for online viewing figures too.

Having looked this morning there is no consistency to the figures at all and it seems to depend on the news of the day. It's been a quiet couple of weeks but the trend seems to be that UTV Live is still leading, though the lead is anywhere between 0.2% and 10% depending on the day in question. Can't see any pattern to it.

I notice Jim Dougal, former BBC NI correspondent and the first co-host of Newsline, has joined UTV as a reporter. He reported on the celebratory service to

Typically, the report was botched - the VT didn't appear to be ready, and Paul Clark couldn't decide what to do - hence came another bout of "hmm"ing and "aah"ing.

And Kate looked into the wrong camera when introducing Gary Gillespie's preview of the sports news.

I see they also sent Julie O'Connor back to the wee-men messed around by Farepak - with white Christmas tree in the living room and tacky outdoor lights.

No wonder UTV Live is losing viewers IMO.

I think people are just realising how bloody awful that sofa actually is.

Still, if Newsl... sorry BBC Newsline was to be run side by side with UTV Live, then it'd be interesting to see. I still maintain UTV Live does well cos NI folk sit down and have tea together at that time so watch local news...

Well that's what happened in my parents house!

Looks like Chris Buckler is definitely off the Omagh trial story - he reported live on the Belfast house fire this evening with his big umbrella.

EDIT: Four live two-ways on BBC Newsline tonight - is that a record?

The poor guy was absolutely soaked! Im surprised there hasn't been BBC NEWSLINE umbrellas made, but then that's only a matter of time I suppose. Conor MacAuley was in court for the Omagh trial today.
