Can I just say how much I agree with so many of the sentiments expressed by the long-time posters on this forum.
I can understand that sometimes it seems like we're all so unwelcoming to new people, but I think we're far better off accepting only those who can (a) use the english language to a fair degree of accuracy and (b) don't attention seek.
It really isn't that much to ask.
I don't know whether it's my personal tastes or interests changing, but comparing now to when I first came on this site (over 3 years ago, several complete crashes and database losses ago!), I spend so much less time on the flagship forum- I just see a couple of "idiot threads" and lose the desire to even scroll down the page for more.
It seems the trolls find it harder to navigate to the newsroom- I find this to be a generally safer area to read and contribute.
Having got rid of the Lounge, it's clear that Asa isn't interested in just getting the most users possible and I think that's admirable. Given this there is no reason why we shouldn't be more selective in choosing new members to our site- I really feel you should have to earn your place here.
Thanks for listening to that rant; it's something I have been wanting to get off my chest for quite a while.
Ever so slightly off topic, but it's not because it's train related. Where did said image originate, If I recall it was from James Martins "Random Thread" but if someone could confirm I would be most appreciative.

Yep, it was from The Random Thread. I think that should come back!
I have held back from registering for years. Even back in the good old days of TV Home. I have been an avid fan of this website for what must be years now. TV is a passion of mine and I have found solice in the sheer genius that is the good majority of the people on here.
I just wished to inject a small glimmer of optimism and hope that at one stage that this website can regain its path to truly spectactular design, thought and above all its only telly guys!

I can confirm that I am certainly a new member but long term fan. I have to admit I would have thought to have recieved a more warm reception, but I suppose it is indicative to the state of play here at the moment.
I look forward to discussing and chatting with whomever wishes to have a good ole natter!

I cannot impress upon people more that this is purely a website for fun and it's a damn shame that it causes so much animosity.
On the whole I honestly think that there are people that use this website who have a very professional manner and have a very important contrubution to make to TV and media in general.
Welcome Frankie - we need more 'proper' members on here!
It's a shame that due to the number of trolls, anyone with a post-count in single figures is now viewed with at best suspicion, at worst hostility, even if they have a valuable contribution to make.
I know some other forums have a system whereby newly signed-up members' accounts are not made fully active for a week, in which time they're encouraged to read the existing threads and get an idea of the dynamics and etiquette of the forum. At the end of the week, they then become able to make posts.
I don't know how feasible such a system would be on here, but it would certainly stop the annoyance of trolls signing up as a different user just minutes after being banned. Having to wait a week to annoy everyone might also put them off registering altogether. It might also help members like PaulFox (or whatever he's called) realise that not every post has to have a poll with 10 different options.
Agreed, theres also the idea that I don't doubt many have also had about some form of I.Q or English writing test to pick out the morons from actual members who make good contributions.
