This seems an exact copy of the C4 100 Greatest Ads. Confused Same interviews, same footage and everything. Ah well, some great ads. the top 20 in alphabetical order are:

British Airways
BT (the -ology one)
Carling Black Label
Coca-cola (i'd like to teach....)
Guinness
Halifax Building Society (howard)
Hamlet
Heat Electric
John Smiths (have it!)
Levi's
Milk Tray Man
Milky Bar Kid
Nike (Parklife)
PG Tips
Real Fires
Shake 'n' Vac
Smash
Walkers Crisps (with Gazza)

19 of those are absolute classics, but Halifax for gods sake?! Should be in 20 Worst.

Well unlike Channel 4, its not hosted by Jimmy Carr and there's no westcountry comedians comparing everything to being on drugs.

I bet it's made by Yorkshire Television...

Nice to see Guinness didn't get no1. Always thought it was over-rated.

It also proves that it isn't the same as the Ch4 programme, as it was number 1 there!

EDIT: Mistake with the Cinzano caption, saying it ran from 1987-1993...Leonard Rossiter was dead by then. Maybe they meant 1977-1983. And how did the Smash adverts run to 2000? I know it was the last advert Channel 4 played in 1999, but that's hardly a 25-year campaign.

Nice titles. It's good to see the adastral updated for the 21st century.

The interviews with the director of Smash and the Leonard Rossiter ones are exactly the same, Same setting and everything.

Anyone else watch the C4 one and recognise it?

Smash deservers the no1 spot though.

I was expecting the Citroen C4 but it's too new to be classed as an ITV ad.

Perhaps they just haven't moved house in the 4 years since the channel 4 one was made?

I was quite worried when I saw Howard Brown's adverts crop up as being in the top 20. Because it doesn't deserve to be anywhere near the top 2000 really. Ironc enough that Halifax then complained at him for taking too much time off work Very Happy

But was it only me who's never seen the advert (or the stars of said advert) which was placed at number one despite it running for supposedly years and years?

I only ever saw the Smash advert when it last appeared around 2000. To me it's nothing special, i really don't know why it got to number 1.

Personally my favourite advert of all time was from around 1997. It was a Nissan Almera advert which mocked The Sweeney. It was brilliant!

ahem...

This is one of those little insignificant things that bug me a lot with the current setup.

Look at the credits to these YTV productions and most of the researchers etc are Tyne Tees staff. The "archive" wing of Granada was Tyne Tees originally (all those "100 greatest" programmes are TTTV productions), but TTTV no longer have network production facilities due to cutbacks. However as YTV are only really packaging a Tyne Tees programme I think it's a bit of a poor show to not give Tyne Tees any credit at all.
