There were a handful of stations that didn't take the show - others did their own thing for the appeal.
All in all a good show - well done to the team who put it all together in a very short space of time.
Musically I thought they had it spot on too - considering the different station formats that took the show.

Did every commercial radio station take part or were they some that didn't?

In a way these things work alot better on radio, as in many ways it was like a standard radio schedules but with plugs for a worthy cause than pointless self promotion.
Also note the commercial stations said they'd donate todays profits - but without any advertising would they make any!
And although it's great of commercial radio to get together and put on an event like this - was there any reason why the BBC couldn't have broadcast the event?

It worked well - each station had 10 mins to themselves each hour between 25-30 and 55-00 in which to place local news, features and ads.

It depends on the stations or radio groups you listened to I think as to whether they took ads in the regional opt outs.
Real Radio did which I thought was disappointing, whilst I didn't hear any on Viking FM and they devoted more time to what people were doing for the event regionally.
In other areas with separate AM & FM services did they have a presenter from each station together in the regional slots like they did with Viking FM & Magic 1161 ?

The UK Radio Aid programme is obviously overrunning on ITV2 atm and so a promotion popped up around 21:00 for a bit before returning to the programme!

Why was it disappointing when the proceeds of the ads are going to the appeal?

Capital and Capital Gold did separate things during the optouts.
There a sustaining services for those who didn't opt out, which the likes of Q, The Mix and Century Digital took.
It was interesting to hear the difference in quality of the stations on digital platforms when they were all playing the same things.

Well that's fair enough. It just broke up the flow somewhat, the day was about rebuilding the lives of the people affected by the tsunami, not about flogging conservatories. Just my opinion.
