Did anyone else notice a different 'style' to EastEnders tonight, or was it just me? I've never laughed so much at an episode of EastEnders - it was thoroughly entertaining!
Is this the first episode where that new lady took over?

Actually speaking as a Corrie Lover & an Eastenders hater, last night's Eastenders was good. Although there seemed to be no obvious reason for it being an hour long, it paced well and was actually quite enjoyable. There were some great "real time" scenes in the Vic, a fantastic cat fight between Zoe & Stacy and best of all no naff gangster Andy. Even the return of Den (again Rolling Eyes ) was good.

IMO Corrie has had another poor week. That game show plot was just plain awful. There doesn't seem to much to look forward to either. I've never liked this Dev & Sunita thing. Her and Maya's arrest plot has been unbelievably flawed. The sooner it's over the better. I don't care about Claire & Ashley either "The only available date the church had was Christmas day" OH COME ON!!!!! how likely is that in November ? Rolling Eyes

More to the point, why was last night a one hour episode?

I didn't find it particularly amusing (sorry jay), and I would have thought that Den returning would be the last thing the new boss wanted.

I agree, it has been very poor - I couldn't give a stuff about Karen/Steve/Tracy either - that storyline has dragged on way too long now. Why hasn't Corrie learned from EastEnders that Christmas Day weddings are just ridiculed as part of a slippery slope of lost credibility? It is the busiest day of the year for a church with more people turning out than a regular Sunday service -has any Forum member been to or know of any real Christmas Day weddings? And where on earth would there be a venue wiilling to hold a reception (apart from the Rovers)?

It's to get their average number of minutes correct over the fortnight, Gavin.

It balances the lack of an episode next Friday due to Wogan in Need.

Heaven forbid that the great British public should completely miss out on a whole twenty-seven (or should that be twenty-five, or even twenty-three) minutes of EastEnders!

EastEnders was a LOAD of crap last night! As if in real life a bloke who's the wrong side of 60, balding would have all the young women of the square at his feet - it's just so unrealistic - 20 years ago maybe.... EastEnders started turning rubbish when Den got reintroduced - none of the characters I really care about anymore - pants...... to think this time 18 months ago it kicked ass..... Rolling Eyes

Hear, Hear! The fact that Dirty Den's reintroduction stretched the limits of credibility speaks volumes, doesn't it?

I'm sorry but I still remember Minty's real name as being Paul Mintson as DI Marsden called him. Its like a lot of little things in EE they don't think of.

Eastenders turned rubbish when Shane Ritchie joined!! And why does Eastenders insist on promoting peripheral characters into major ones - Minty, Juley, Mickey?? A major storyline will revolve around Tracy next!!

A major problem with EastEnders is the life of the actors is far more dramatic than the life of the characters at the moment - and hence why minor characters get bigger storylines to cover for the major actors being off for one reason or another.

The EastEnders stars more than any other soap - even any other TV drama - come across as celebrities first, actors second.

Agree EE went bad when Shane Richie joined - although initially Alfie Moon was one of the highligths of the show, as soon as Mr Richie wanted to be a serious actor the character failed.

EE is far too rapped up in it's own world. Axing the Slaters, the Mitchells and Alfie from the show completely would give it a clean slate to start again.

But really, although it is BBC1's most popular programme, the time has come to EastEnd It!

C4 axing Brookside has allowed funds to be diverted into making new drama series such as Shameless, and axing EastEnders could pave the way for BBC1 to create four new primetime hour-long dramas, running US style for 24 episodes at a time and adding some much needed variety to the schedule.
