*Strewth* Give me a break. Despite the incredibly consistent blathering on in the Scum and others about how "EE is on its last legs", "Another nail in the coffin", "AXED! Two episodes", the fact is Eastenders is still incredibly popular and no matter how many people go on about low its audiences are or how abysmal some characters/storylines are, the BBC will never axe it until its ratings consistently fall below 5-6 million

C4 axing Brookside has allowed funds to be diverted into making new drama series such as Shameless, and axing EastEnders could pave the way for BBC1 to create four new primetime hour-long dramas, running US style for 24 episodes at a time and adding some much needed variety to the schedule.
