Personally, I think it makes more sense to discuss Weather in the News forum.

I totally agree with you, James. I was simply repeating what was instructed to us by our masters.

Our previous discussion applies!

perhaps we should form a coup and create a new weather forum, and, how about a generic thread forum too?

what do my fellow forumers think of this idea?

I think its a shame Fishy is going. He is the last of the "weathermen". First McCaskill then Kettley, then Irishman Bernard Davey.

Kettley is still at the BBC, he just doesn't do TV

Actually, none of the Broadcast Meteriologists that work at the BBC work for the BBC - they all work for the Met Office and are hired by the BBC to present weather forecasts. ISTR John Kettley actually no longer even works for the Met Office, but presents weather bulletins for Radio 5 Live under a separate franchise.

Which brings us neatly to the fact that as Susan Powell was today's duty forecaster on Radio Five Live and that there is a daily space for one on the "Today's Broadcasting Team" page on bbc.co.uk... has that separation between Five Live and all other BBC Weather now gone away..?

Blimey, that's a long shift! He was on Breakfast at just before 9 this morning - albeit as a 'guest' weather presenter.

I'll be sorry to see him go. I'm sure most of us on here have never known the weather without him. Unless I'm forgetting someone, he's the last of the real 'old guard' now we no longer have the likes of Giles and McCaskill.

Does this make John Kettley the longest serving forecaster?

Yes I guess Mr K is - and I'm guessing Rob McElwee is now the longest serving forecaster seen on screen (national forecasts)

So does John Kettley not do any TV now?

Also, I think Suzanne Charlton pre-dates Rob McElwee if I'm not mistaken.

EDIT: Just thought, I've not seen her for ages, has she gone too?
