Well i don't know about the other times of the day, but whenever i turn on Radio 1 in the morning on my way to work, and on the way home, all they play is rap and r'n'b. Only once in a blue moon do you get the occasional pop track or dance track!

Yeah and that awful Chris Moyles talks nothing but complete drivel and he always interrupts the news and sport readers when they do their bulletins! Its so rude! Please BBC, ax him for good!

Moyles is fab.

Also radio 1's rap / r&b content has been falling in favour of rock recently. It's just reflecting what's in the charts at the moment.

I was made to listen to 1xtra the other night (DAB radio at work) and it is far worse than listening to Radio 1's black output. If you listen to 1xtra you will think you are listening to a pirate radio station as the DJ's shout all over tracks, fade in and out of tracks to shout their text/phone number to us etc.

I havent listened to Radio 1 recently, but im glad to hear from another poster that they are playing more rock (even if it is tamed rock).

Yes unfortunately i've had the misfortune to listen to 1Xtra, and your absolutely right its just insane. I thought Tim Westwood on Radio 1 was bad enough with him shouting "YEH MAD DOG, THIS IS A MAD DOG TRACK BABY!" But 1Xtra was 100 times worse Rolling Eyes

I was even watching Top Gear the other night, the one program that i like which has no black content in it, and they did a whole half hour segment on "Bling" and what kind of cars are bling. I was like "oh for gods sake" lol

I will admit that the likes of the darkness, white stripes and all that do get occasional air play on Radio 1, however whether black music is in the charts or not, 90% of the music they play is black music. And since theres already 1Xtra and the Asian network, you'd think that black music would be catered for enough!

Please refrain from saying stupid things.

I enjoy occasions when people come along and talk pure and unadulterated dross. Where is your evidence for these rather generalised statistics of yours? Do you even listen to Radio 1? I'd hazard a guess and say not. Do me and everyone else a favour by at least having a look at the Radio 1 playlist. You will find that you are spouting rubbish. Then have a look at the Top 40 and you'll see that it's pretty represenative of what is in or has been in the playlist.

I'm also intrigued about your criteria for juding what "black music" is. It appears to me you're saying "Well that person's black, therefore it's black music."

Is Joss Stone black music? Well, yes. Is Black Eyed Peas black music? Well, no. 1Xtra plays "street music", a term much more precise than "black music". And when certain aspects of 1Xtra's music goes into the mainstream, it will of course be on Radio 1. You seem to be taking this relatively small crossover area and blowing up to huge proportions, thereby rendering your whole argument rubbish.

It's like saying that any new bands or classic tracks or sessions should be banned from Radio 2 because 6Music exists. Or that Radio 2's playlist is 90% rock. Or that any live sport should be taken away from Five Live because Sports Extra is around. It's pure rubbish. Radio 1 and 1Xtra are designed to compliment each other because they are sister networks with one focussing on a particular area of the other's.

I know it sounds stupid, but it does seem as if the white people who enjoy NORMAL music, seem to be left in the dark by the BBC.

You do sound stupid, who are you to say whats normal and what's not?

Back on topic, too add to my earlier post, how much damage do you think the poor quality of EastEnders is doing to the appearance of BBC1's schedule? When it's flagship programme is poor, it makes the rest of the schedule look poor.

Good point. While BBC1 are showing repeats of Daytime show "Cash In the Attic" at 7pm on Monday nights, michael Grade is correct in ordering a complete overhaul of BBC1's output. He has also hinted at his dislike of continuing dramas being used to create a schedule around, so perhaps EastEnders will revert back to three episodes a week? Lorraine Heggessey I think has, although I don't really like her way of doing things, been brave enough to experiment and modernise BBC1 but I think now it is now time for her to move on as she can no longer carry out persistent quality on BBC1 and with her commissioning such crap as that Nick Knowles thing Historyonics, there is no way the channel will improve.

A new controller, a brand new look and some back to basic programmes consisting of BBC-esque documentary series and comedies are what is needed now for the channel. At least for the near future anyway.

BBC1 is a headache for the BBC that is becoming worse and worse. I bet ITV are loving this. I think BBC1's problem, is the colour red and the ever increasing amount of depressing program topics. Lighten up BBC1!...and get rid of blood red!

I'm sure the investigation will also conclude that the main reason BBC One is struggling is the colour red. Rolling Eyes

I think that might be putting it a little strong. BBC One isn't in a terrible state, infact its probably in a better state than it was a few years ago.

Also ITV1 isn't doing amazingly well, its just gets talked about less than BBC One.

BBC One has had some good programming recently and some good successes. Strickly Come dancing performed very well, it did well at Euro 2004, Waking The Dead perfomed well on the w/end.... its not as if its' all going wrong.,

I think when people here that there is going to be a review of the BBCs output they all think that its in some dire need of revival, but its not. This review should be welcomed because it should stop BBC One showing some of its weak programmes and hopefully result in an even stronger BBC One which provides good quality programming that it can shout about.
