Its amazing how a cup of coffee and a good nights sleep makes you feel much more sensible. Oh and I have not already registered on this board under another name, but is there a fan club Hymagumba?
Oh and then there was the American power cuts, they cut to <i forget who> who was still talking to the gallery "well is it coming off the back of a package or...[sees little red light, phone down]." stupid thing is, they then tried to pass it off as a technical fault when he was clearly ready - strange that.
Do you mean Nick Bryant? I saw that too. Funnily enough he has now been moved from Washington to India
I saw it last night, it must've been absolute madness in the gallery, bet the director needed a stiff drink or two afterwards!
What would've happened if none of the reports would play? Woudl they go to the regions early or have something on standby?
If the main TX server crashes its usual for some (at least, if not all) packages to be available on an alternative server or on tape. There should always be standby packages available and in extremis there are often spare in-vision scripts that can be used to "fill" until playout of packages becomes possible again.
Regions expect to opt out at about 1815 for the half-way headlines and then again at about 1830 for their main programmes. It is unusual (though not completely unknown) for network to have such a severe failure that the regions are expected to go on-air very early.

The problem is that some (probably most) regions wouldn't be ready for their programme any earlier. You'd have the same problem with no reports, not because of any technical problems, but because they haven't finished being edited yet. Then there's the problem of where would they suddenly get another 10-15 minutes of programe from?
Well if it was Look North I would expect at least 20 minutes of 'banter' and viewer emails to fill the show up anyway.
Please note that this comment only refers to the Look North Kingston-Upon-Hull edition, and not the fine Look North Leeds and Look North Newcastle-Upon-Tyne editions.
Did anyone else in the Look East area catch breakfast at about 8:45am, when Breakfast was interupted with a 'Look East' ident. The Look East presenter said "hello I'm (can't remember name), what, oh" before it cut back to Breakfast. Rehearsing for the regional bullien and someone accidently hitting the opt-out button?

Blimey. I said that without even moving my lips.
Is Corin actually a real person, or simply a robot which replies to peoples posts with comments structured from the previous posts etc.? Some of the inane rubbish that Corin sometimes posts, makes me think the latter of the above theories is correct.
Yes the director would have needed a drink afterwards. As I mentioned earlier, when the Betacart crashed at LNN many years ago, the then editor came running into the gallery screaming, just secs later, the then MD (Clive Jones) arrived from the directorate 'screaming and swearing'. so you have just about everyone working on the show in the same room trying to solve the problem. IIRC, they couldn't even retrieve the tapes from the cart machine and so playing them out from edit suites wasn't an option either. I have the entire bulletin on VHS, but unfortunately cannot transfer it to file. If someone were to offer to do it, I would be happy to send the tape. It is quite entertaining.

Now there's an interesting theory, JP; a VERY interesting theory.
It put me in mind of the very first edition of Central News South who at the time were boasting theirs was the first newsroom to use digital playout, rather than tapes.
Unfortunately just about everything went down on their first programme even including the opening titles. I think in the end they managed to get about two reports to play, but that was it. The rest of the time they had to fill by going back time after time to their live studio guest, Eddie 'The Eagle' Edwards.
