ITV drama has been great over the last year, but haven't they got enough murder dramas without adding two more to their schedule.

Murder City and Murder in Suburbia (sp?) are both being trailed at the moment - I'm not sure if they are one offs or series - but I'd personally like to see a wider range of topics for ITV Drama.

Any suggestions?

I can remember the days of top class ITV drama where variation was commonplace. "Flambards" "We'll Meet Again" "Minder" "The Jewel In The Crown" "The Beiderbecke Affair" "Peak Practice" "Soldier Soldier" are to name but a few. The list of classic ITV drama can also boast the birth of that great "BBC" drama called "Auf Wiedersehen Pet." So the problem is that there is not enough brave new writers being commissioned by ITV and at present, rather than lose out in ratings it is safer to commission dramas with mass appeal, and sadly crime dramas have this. Mind you I did enjoy "Booze Cruise" and "Margery and Gladys" last year. Not so keen on "Rosemary and Thyme" though.

Murder in Suburbia is a series of 6 and Murder City is also a series. Don't forget MIT (Murder Investigation Team) returning this summer with 90 minute extended episodes, featuring DC Eva Sharpe who exits The Bill soon.

It's not just cop dramas on at the moment, There is Life Begins, Footballers wives and starting tonight William & Mary. Also starting soon is Making Waves. We have already had a series of Fat Friends this year.

Last Autumn 3 series were relegated to late night slots because of poor ratings, Family, Single and Sweet Medicine and in the summer the same happened to 40 Something. The great British public and I don't include myself in this love police dramas. I just wish we didn't have to put up with constant repeats of Morse and Frost. So anything new is a bonus.

The repeats of Frost and Morse do very well in the ratings so why shouldn't ITV show them decides Morse hasn't been on for a while.

By the looks of the trailers for both Murder in Suburbia and Murder City (which I like the logo cap at the end of the trailer with the blood running down leaving the black as a silouette of a city scene!), I would say that Murder City was more Saturday Night viewing with a bit of comedy mixed into the script (Jonathan Creek esque).
