I've never really warmed to Channel 5's new look. The blocks rising up remind me of London Live and that never a good sign.

The five piece logo is OK, but I don't think it works when it's small.

I still think that the only decent branding package ever to air on that channel was the original 1997 set, complete with the five bar candy stripes.

Oh and the news... Still live in hope that one day somebody will go live with a modern version of their original presentation.

True but the original version it replaced was superior to that.

Most local BBC Radio stations audio imaging is an absolute car crash. I won't begin on the visual (lack of) language. BBC CWR (yes, a name from the 1980s is really going to do it) is a prime example. Truly North Norfolk Digital.

Real is always better than fake. In that vein, I've never understood the World News use of a virtual background of a London skylight. In a basement. Looks washed out and naff.

Victoria Derbyshire programme. I'm sure you can guess what I'm going to say.

I pay £140-odd quid a year. For that in return I get 10 advert-free TV channels plus one more advertising-funded native language channel, a whole host of radio stations, one of the most comprehensive information websites in the world and a catch up and VOD streaming service. Bargain.

Others pay £0 but still get to use all that if they want to, without penalty.

I think anyone who doesn't pay the TV licence should share their Netflix or Amazon Prime passwords with those who do. Fair's fair after all.

Also such streaming services like the aforementioned are not replacements, but complements for linear broadcast TV. Amazon may be poking their toes into live sport, granted, but I have yet to see anything like QI or HIGNFY or current affairs programming on an entertainment based streaming service, nor do I think it would be viable.

The number of people who don't pay their TV licence and don't use *ANY* BBC service at all thereafter is approximately.....zero.

Hated the ITV hearts era, everything about and especially the end credits.
Granada became really dull never really using the full idents. It must have been when Leeds took over continuity for the Northern stations and all had bland generic announcements.

I don't remember seeing this identity, but I love the ITV1 idents that were used from late 2004 to early 2006. (so much I made a whole thread dedicated to it!)

I would go as far to say that they should have stuck with this identity for a few more months. It really doesn't get the appreciation it deserves.

My favourite BBC One ident ever has to be skateboarders. From the beautiful melody of the music through to the artistic single camera tracking shot in normal and slow speed. Every time I see it I wonder how many takes it took to actually get the perfect footage.

I'm sorry about the job losses, but I'm not sorry to see the back of UTV as a brand; the nostalgia for it is mostly unwarranted.

National ITV News looks great, but the regional sets look awful; whoever thought glossy black panels in cramped studios with low lighting grids was ever going to look good on-screen was an idiot.

I find a certain Welsh newsreader's constant head movements, looking around the desk and studio like he's following a pin-ball, to be really annoying. For me it's just a distraction from what he's telling us, and takes away from his authority.

I really hate news reports that have been shot progressive instead of interlaced, it doesn't make them look good, it just makes them stick out like a sore thumb.

An awful lot of people who work in fairly technical jobs in TV can't tell the difference between progressive and interlaced footage; it does my head in.

In my view the entirety of modern continuity on British television is pish.

Every channel looks the same, and has done for the last thirty years.

Give it some personality or go down the US road of just dropping into programmes.

With you on that one. It seems to be a 21st Century thing, that started with some technical staff seemingly unable to notice aspect ratio errors during the grim mixed currently era of the 00s.

And don't get me started on the technical quality of TV ads. The ultimate irony is an ad that's playing currently for a thousand quid Samsung phone, full of advanced camera features, has motion artefacts!

BBC newsreaders and reporters (either in-studio or on location) referring to each other by name when having a live conversation.

I'm certain that didn't happen before the pips and beeps.
