Might just be me, but I think it looks like chromakey.

The desk reflection not reflecting the backdrop is the giveaway that it is.

The desk reflection was always the giveaway on the ITV News Channel back in 2004 and 2005, when they were kicked out of the main ITV News studio due to national bulletin rehearsals and moved into the studio next door, which simply had a desk plonked in the middle of a green screen world. The reflection on the desk, and the desk's brighter lights was the giveaway.

I wonder why the reflection was always seen in the main ITV News green screen studio, but not in their other green screen set? I am not technical at all, could someone who knows explain.

Thank you.

It was because the Theatre Of News used a virtual studio system, where as the other set was a single camera chromakey setup. The virtual studio system could handle reflections, CSO/Chromakey is just a picture or video replacing whatever the background was, so handling reflections there would be incredibly difficult, if not impossible.

Not entirely impossible - during the cream and red era, when BBC News needed to be out of their usual studio for refurbishments they would use fairly sophisticated CSO set-ups that included reflections in the desk - most notably in late-2003 when News 24 moved from N8 to TC10. So long as you include the desk reflection in the background image, it will appear in CSO image.

It's the bloodied handprints on the cupboard doors that are more worrying.

What was she on to talk about?

Does anybody know what happened to the old Wales Today set in the end? Presumably if it isn't going to another region it's been binned or used for parts or something.

Well at least two of the 103" plasmas were sold off, but the rest of the set was not (or at least not publicly). If they were going to move it to another region (which was initially speculation on my part) I expect that coronavirus would have complicated it somewhat and it may have been placed in storage until they can install it safely. If not, it has likely been binned.

I sincerely hope it's going to another region. Would seem a waste to dispose of a set that new - especially when lots of regions have even older sets. Also Newcastle and Soton can accommodate it (Soton snugly), so I see no downside.

I could make the observation of both the contributer, and the producer that failed to notice the object, would both be feeling a p****..

.. But I won't.

I do think pulling the programme entirely is a bit of an over reaction - aren't they only up for 24 hours so they might as well leave it in it's slot for people who enjoy such things at their own pleasure. Wink
