These new studios are an investment for "the next 20-30 years"??? That seems astonishingly short-sighted.

How so?

I took a peak through the doors on my way home from work tonight and they were testing the screens which make up the backdrop of the ground floor studio, playing a loop of that nice BBC Wales ident.

That looks nice, that ident.
Has it appeared before any of BBC Cymru Wales' programmes on One or Two?

Do viewers in Wales see that sting at the start of Wales-produced network programmes, in place of e.g. a "BBC Drama" sting (or whatever) seen in the rest of the UK?

I believe so, although I personally have only seen it before regional programmes.

As the planet will be a barren lifeless burnt out rock by 2050, probably not

Was a shame they were so apologetic in their report on the new building and pandering to the people who believe the entire output for Wales should come from a shed in a Port Talbot back garden. Would have much rather seen a tour of the building and them showing what the money would deliver.

Because I'd have thought after a multi-million pound investment and brand new (city centre) studio complex, they'd be expecting to stay put for a bit longer than 20 years!

He said "the technical foundations here will last us 20 to 30 years". Given he just mentioned the switch to HD, I assume he meant the equipment and technology the place is fitted out with. I doubt anyone can predict with much certainty what broadcast technologies will exist in 20-30 years time.

I doubt very much they plan to vacate and demolish the place in 2040.

Does anyone know the full specs of the IP rollout? Like what hardware they’re using?

IP?

Internet Protocol , so instead of having a dedicated video cable connecting each thing, it’s on a network so easier to do things... I think.

I adore the new look. It's everything that has been so lacking from UK on-screen presentation in recent years.

Spent the last few days trying to decide what the new Newyddion theme reminds me of, and I've worked it out. Do we know who composed it?

Whataday, London Lite and BBI45 gave kudos

I'm glad I wasn't the only one to notice the resemblance.

IP is actually format agnostic, so as long as the switches, SFPs and fibres are 'fat' enough for all the data, you can step up to 4k
/UHD with more ease. (I've oversimplified grossly, but you get the idea !)
