I'm just checking the Canadian channels on their special coverage, and I noticed that CBC and CTV News Channel will start their Biden Inauguration coverage earlier than the American TV channels.
CBC's special coverage will start at 10:00am ET, while CTV's special coverage will start even earlier at 09:00am ET.
It's not just the news channels but also the over-the-air ones. It's like being forced to become the 51st state without our consent for at least the last decade or so.
I only watched 3 hours of mostly outdoor coverage from CNN this afternoon. From what I have seen of it; it was really good. A lot of good context was given by Jake Tapper, Wolf Blitzer, John King Anderson Cooper of how the recent circumstances had unfolded while it came to America until this point today when Biden had his big day with Kamala Harris on the footsteps of the U.S. Capitol.
I then watched RTÉ News Six-One when I was finished with CNN. I did not watch RTÉ's special coverage of Biden's inauguration at all.
For probably the first time in my Newsjunkie life, I watched yesterday’s coverage without channel hopping even once. I stayed with Al Jazeera English throughout.
In typical AJE form, it was robust, clean, flowed perfectly and was generally flawless. Superbly anchored both on-location and from the Doha studio.
More worryingly is that the monitor below is running WINDOWS?
I'm not sure that's shocking or even interesting information.
Yeah, I know Android and Apple dominate the mobile market and Windows could never get a foothold, but desktop computing still widely uses Windows. It's no surprise at all to see Windows on that monitor, in my opinion.

Yeah. Iirc they still have over 70% share of desktop and laptop computers. I fail to see how it's 'worriying'

Twas a little tongue'n'cheek from a Mac fanboy, nothing more.
Well worth a listen to the latest 'Americast' for the excellent, imo, detail of the minutiae of the Inauguration, at the events leading to it and afterwards of Inauguration Day.
I think The coverage was overboard, when the uk recorded the worst deaths of the pandemic and floods in various parts of the country, we could have done with bbc world news in the UK, with UK outlets concentrated on events here and if you were really interested watch the world news channel for the United States stuff.

Considering ITV also dedicated two and a half hours to the inauguration, even they thought they should capture history in the making.
On the day itself, people affected had access to BBC local radio and the internet for any urgent news about the floods.

Indeed. To be fair (and with no disrespect regarding death numbers etc) the pandemic is ongoing. There probably isn’t anything new they could have told audiences that they aren’t already aware of; same as the floods. If anything dramatically changed they could have interrupted proceedings.
The inauguration was the most important event taking place at that time. Isn’t that how news works?!
The Pandemic is ongoing, The floods regular winter (and sometimes at other seasons) events, both are newsworthy. The Inauguration a four yearly event, complicted by the electoral politics of 'The World's Greatest Country' and latterly the insurrection rightly deserved to knock the other two items significantly down the order yesterday. News, never should be parochial, which some with devious intent wish it was.
London wasn't being affected by the floods so it's no surprise it didn't feature. If the Thames had been causing evacuations there would have been much more coverage.
