This may be a completely stupid question but could Mary nightingale for example present a channel 4 or 5 bulletin in theory because she’s employed by ITN or can she only do itv news.

I suppose it's all to do with contracts. As well as timing, with her main gig being the Evening News on ITV she won't be able to present the main bulletin on Channel 4 or 5 which is at more or less the same time.

Most presenters are actually employed by the channels themselves (as opposed to ITN) - including Mary, Tom, Julie etc. Which amongst other things, prevents them from fronting bulletins on other channels - even if they. are also produced by ITN.

They might be ITN employees but they very much stick to the outlet they’re signed to. Though some of the big names such as Jon Snow, Julie Etchingham, Sian Williams are reportedly paid by the channels they’re on, rather than ITN. (That also doesn’t stop Sian doing that 7.30pm health prog on ITV either).

Worth remembering too that Alastair Stewart presented a few debate shows on C5 whilst under contract with ITV/ITN. And separately, also a lot of the Sky News big names (Kay, Julie Etchingham) appeared on 5 News in its early days at Osterley. Later on, Charlotte Hawkins presented 5 News a few times in 2010/2011 when she was an established name on Sunrise.

It would obviously be strange to see news talent appearing on various channels at the same time (though it obvs does happen at a lower level with a lot of freelancers).

Isn't it more the case that production staff are employed by ITN and can work across multiple programmes/outlets? I'm thinking sound mixers, lighting directors, engineering etc. I'm starting to wonder whether some of the programme editors and directors might be employed directly by the clients as well, because - unlike in the old days - I can't think of a recent occasion where, say, Martin Collett has directed ITV News or Nick Wall has directed C4 News. It seems to me that "key" personnel involved in the creative/public image of the programme are employed directly by the client but the general technical and support staff are employed by ITN. Of course, it didn't used to be that way in decades gone by as pretty much anyone, presenters included, could pop up on any ITN outlet!

In the live link to Westminster I kept hearing a dripping noise seeming to come from off camera. Could there be a leak?

Yesterday's Tweets between Meridian presenters Fred and Sangeeta hint that it will be soon.

Thank you 👍

Has anybody heard anymore about dual presenters again from next Monday on ITV Regional News and if there may be a modification in terms of desks etc to allow for social distancing?

Anyone know who is presenting the ITV Lunchtime News today? I’ve never seen her before.

What ever happened to the central news south studio and the Thames valley tonight set?

The CNS studio in Abingdon has long gone albeit the site was retained for many years as a newsgathering base for ITV Thames Valley, then Meridian. They relocated their base for Meridian to a new smaller office in Didcot only a couple of years ago. Although the local road signs still make reference to ''Central TV''. As for the Thames Valley Tonight studio that went when ITV Meridian moved offices in c.2012.
