Alan Carr's Epic Gameshow

Pretty much a retake on Gameshow Marathon in my opinion. (May 2020)

It’s part of the games being ‘super sized’ and ‘epic’ isn’t it, rather than just straight remakes.

Yes, it’s just not implemented very well and quite inconsistent.

It’ll be interesting to see how they implement the pyramid into Bullseye.

On the original trailer there is a shot of what looks like 4 darts board each with a red section lit up. I’m not really sure how it links to the ‘pyramid’ device.

That trailer gave away the end of Take your Pick didn’t it!

And Bullseye for that matter!

Well that's at least the second time they're used a pyramid for the end game on this marathon. Not really sure what this adds to things apart from being awkwardly implemented?

The pyramid is clearly meant to be the format point that binds all the games together. However it’s slotted in better to some games than others.

Shame they're not doing The Pyramid Game then.

Agree it didn't work - just seemed awkward. I think from what we saw tonight they could stretch the original game play out to a 45 minute slot, but struggle at an hour. Indeed that's the case for most of the revived shows we've seen - 45 minutes they can get away with, but at an hour it always drags.

If they were to revive it as an hour long show I'd put Top, Middle or Bottom back as a finale and create another Head to Head - perhaps some kind of hybrid of both rounds with each team having half the screens each and first to the middle wins. Answer for 1, 2 or 3 instead (but harder questions) then they play Top, Middle or Bottom with prizes still on offer.

I wouldn't even do that. I'd just play it as it was when it first came to TV in this country and if it needs to be padded out, either make the rows slightly longer or slap random questions into the arches which are attached to more mundane prizes that can get "upgraded" if you get the question right. ie instead of a garden shed it gets upgraded to, I dunno, a garden makeover or something.

Remember the Christmas specials of the original show ran in 45 minute slots and they did nothing extra game wise, aside from milking the Christmas/charity side of things.

There was an episode of Strike it Lucky which was just talking to the contestants, they were so entertaining that they left it all in. I can't remember if they showed the game the following week or just didn't show it at all

The first episode of Series 6 followed this, they showed all the banter and then went to the game in progress about two screens in.

Bit of a rubbish end game. And a shame to take away the surprise element of the star prize.

What we can learn from this exercise is that you can't really 'supersize' these gameshows.

They worked in their original form in their 30 minute slot at the time of broadcast.

It's nice for nostalgia but if it is a pilot for a series I wouldn't want any of them to come back in this form.
