Let's not forget in the amidst of talk about The Colour of Money (which filmed eight episodes and aired seven), that were was another Tarrant-fronted programme called The Great Pretender back in 2007 in what would become The Chase slot. Ran for eight weeks every weeknight.

Wasn't there a planned 50:50 spin off as well for daytime but I don't think it got as far as making it to air.

That article mentions the pub quiz machine fame for The Great Pretender, which reminds me of the Colour of Money slot machine that was made, complete with a Chris Tarrant button.

Was the bong game the inspiration for Tarrant's other (significantly less successful) gameshow, The Colour of Money?

Well, TCM got a couple of it's cues from The Bong Game. But, The Colour Of Money was a 12 Yard production, rather than Celedor, so the DNA trail quickly runs out.

When it ended up on screen, it was different from the original envisaged version, in that what was the 'shouting stop' at a cash machine prop, was supposed to be the end game for the prize money that the winner of the preceeding quiz played. Plus, you knew the amounts the cash machines, you just didn't know where they were. With The Bong Game no hints as to if the last amount before the bong was going to be nearer £40, £400 or £4,000.

Quiz dropped, stand alone end game streched out to a near snappable length.

The Bong Game ended up on tv more or less as per the radio game via the 'awkward 2nd album' Celeador did for ITV, with the post quiz final round in the daytime version of The People Versus.

There was 'The People Versus' shown during the daytime/teatime which I vaguely recall being a spin-off to Millionaire.

Millionaire Hot Seat has been a very successful daytime version of the format in Australia.

It wasn’t a spin-off as such. Just a show made the same company which had similar music and lighting etc and marketed as being ‘from the makers of’.

And it's same host as Chi Vuol Essere Milionario as well funnily enough.

This is Tarrant's last episode in 2014. When were the prizes changed and was it all celebrity editions towards the end? To be honest I kind of lost interest in the show around 2004 and thought it ended in about 2010. I was surprised it ran as long as it did.
