It's a strange one. Certainly in January, the episodes scheduled were produced in late 2018, with the Christmas episodes I think in November.

However it does appear that since this year, there's been a quicker turnaround of some episodes

Personally, it's not just ITV that's getting the kick up the backside it needs; ALL broadcasters need it. They need to be reminded of their responsibilities to not just the audience, but to those who take part as well.
msim, chevron and London Lite gave kudos

It's a very sad situation for the family. All over a disgusting daytime tv show.

Love Island is totally the same idea or at least they achieve the same thing. Drama. Arguments and cheating are on the menu with these types of shows. That's exactly what they want. Proper bottom of the barrell tele.

Surely something better cam be produced.

Thing is there is a market for downmarket formats which can work well if they have the proper processes in hand. Clearly where the Kyle production team got it massively wrong is their lack of mental health awareness. With the pressures of a fast turnaround show with a high programme ratio, it slipped through the net at the expense of the guests the show is supposed to help.

These type of shows do seem to attract controversy. Didn’t Vanessa get axed due to fake guests?

I think if ITV decides to commission this type of show again, it’ll not be nearly as aggressive or in your face as Kyle was.

Does it get shown abroad? If so I wonder if they've been withdrawn?

Virgin Media Television showed Kyle as part of their contract with ITV Studios in Ireland. I think it was shown on VM2?

They could broadcast the unaired episodes of Shafted? That's in the same vein as Jezza but not half as harsh. Glad JK has been given the boot, it always seemed awkward and difficult to watch the few times I have tuned in and certainly not an enjoyable way to start the day. They could bring back 'Talkabout' with Andrew O'Connor. All of these well liked quiz shows were given the heave-ho once Vanessa took the slot, then Trisha, then Jezza. Now this genre is likely gone forever, they could make a dramatic return.

ITV will be hoping to save Love Island - a scandal on this year's series could end the show if it looks like risking someone's mental health.

And it’s already trending on Twitter. They can’t afford to deal with another scandal involving mental health, but I don’t think it’ll nuke the show.

Unless it does a Jeremy Kyle-esque axing.

It’s shown in Australia and New Zealand, too. TVNZ have said that they will continue to broadcast it - in fact it’s on air as I type this - but won’t show the episode with Steve Dymond.

EDIT: Digging a little deeper, turns out it’s not currently shown in Australia - in fact, our version doesn’t seem to have been shown there at all - but the US version has, strangely enough.

I think with the gameshows in the afternoon, they likely don't want them in that slot otherwise they risk over saturating the market.

I suspect any replacement is likely going to be in the same vein of what came before. They might do a different take on it but I don't think this type of show will ever be completely gone.
