I'm reminded of the Jasper Carrot routine now about how Coronation Street was too nice and crime free for the area of Manchester it's set in- "it's like Bosnia, only there's more guns".

Or realistically how many corner shops are ran by a white man called Reg....
To be fair, such a big story will no doubt have all the social action stuff surrounding it like David’s male rape did, so this one couldn’t be played out as a shock, plus I’m not sure it’d be appropriate to play such a storyline as a shock.

Reading the interview with Kate Oates I do get their strategy of wanting to give viewers the choice whether or not to watch. Interesting too they specifically asked for it to air as an hour long episode as they didn't want people to see half the story.
I do applaud Corrie for this storyline - certainly very topical and something rarely covered by soap. I recall Hollyoaks doing it in their early days but can't think of any other soap suicides other than the euthanasia plot with Hayley.

Peggy Mitchell (suicide) and Ethel Skinner (assisted suicide) in EastEnders. Lee Carter, also in EastEnders, was on the brink of suicide by the end of 2016.
It's only the external set they're opening up, tickets cost £35, and that is a rip-off since the tours of the old set at Quay Street included the Stage One studio, some interior sets, a selection of props and have your photo taken behind the bar in the Rovers Return.
The adult ticket price for the old tour was £16.50. Charging more than double for external set access only is a massive cash grab.
