I'd also assume it allows the late shift presenter to present London on Sunday as well as Saturday.

I think if ITV News swapped out the virtual gallery background for a backdrop of the atrium, the studio would look amazing, especially if they tinted it with the midnight blue/ teal theme. The bits of wall with the picture frames on need some work though.

They did that is 2006, and it didn't look nearly as good as we thought it would.

It looked okay. The real view out the back of the Channel 4 News studio at the time looked much better. We expected the ITV look to be similar, and in fact, it wasn't and didn't look anywhere near as good as the real view did.

It didn't work on the curve screen but probably be better with a flat backdrop as we have now, though isn't a version of the atrium basically the side drop for at least News at Ten.

I reckon that a backdrop could be easily mocked up, even by us on here. Just a few blue/red squares to go with an ITV News logo

You can imaging every BBC News, Sky News, BBC 5 Live and LBC viewer/listener who saw or heard it curling up into a cringe.

EDIT: For anybody who hasn't seen it:

Thought they’d make some reference to this just now on the 6.30 news but it was business as normal.
