So the BBC have revealed the details of the coverage of the US PGA next month:

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/golf/40738368?ns_mchannel=social&ns_campaign=bbc_sport&ns_source=facebook&ns_linkname=sport

Basically the entire coverage is on the 'red button'. Rounds 1 & 2 will have a 1 hour slot of BBC Two post Newsnight. For rounds 3 & 4 it will be basically the final 9 holes each night being shown live on BBC Two. It's rather woeful TBH, I hope this is because of the clash with the World Athletics Championships.

Also of note is that the BBC will only be taking CBS's coverage for rounds 3 & 4. That means they will not show the additional 3 hours of coverage that TNT show each day, and which Sky have shown for the past 20+ years.

Whilst it's good to have the tournament back on the BBC it is this inept scheduling that has meant the viewer is better off when it is broadcast on Sky. This poor scheduling will do little to encourage the USGA to bring the US Open to the BBC. With its very restrictive coverage The Masters committee won't be unduly concerned though.

Also early rumor/indications are the red button stuff will be CBS full coverage (i.e their commentary etc). With all the stuff on the main channel Being Peter Alliss & Ken Brown only, along with Barbour hosting.

The excellent Andrew Cotter is unavailable as he is commentating on the World Athletics Championships for the BBC and only gaining the rights at the last minute perhaps meant they couldn't get a whole commentary team quick enough bar Alliss and Brown. If the BBC have a multi year deal for the tournament I would expect a bigger team next year and full coverage on BBC Two.

Indications are that this is a one year deal. It's also been said that the BBC paid £100k for the rights so that gives you a fair idea of how basic the coverage will be.

Wouldn't surprise me if Brown & Alliss where offtube and all the main channel coverage was from Salford. However I think unlikely.

Realistically with golf even if they are on site surely most of the coverage is effectively offtube anyway.

Emirates cup also in HD via the Eurosport Player.

Notice the International Champions Cup has been on Premier Sports this time, including Man Utd matches live - in the past I think when the event was on Sky the Man Utd games were on MUTV.

With the boxing cancelled tonight, due to one of the fighters being injured, Five is showing a film, Trespass, instead.

Saying as this is a TV presentation forum I will talk about Emirates Cup on Quest this weekend, the coverage has had one commentator in Kevin Keatings for all 4 matches with no co-commentator, no pundits or no presenter. Fair enough in some regards at half time or full time they don't even show a recap of the goals just went straight to adverts. They also played features during both matches yesterday such as how to polish a table which was random.

Some might say it's only Quest a small freeview channel but they could of at least have Kevin Keatings talking over some of the action for a couple of minutes at the start and end of half time for example but it is owned by Discovery and they also own Eurosport and when they had English, Scottish and NI Open Snooker last year they had full coverage with pundits and Colin Murray or Andy Goldstein presenting and they have also had the same with British Superbikes and Endurance Races in the past. Yes it's just Eurosport coverage on free to air but even worse Quest covered the pre season Schalke 04 Cup a few years ago which featured West Ham and Newcastle they had presenters, pundits, commentators and co-commentators.

With an event like that where there was no room on Eurosport you assume it's been bought especially for Quest which when they put in minimal effort makes you wonder why.

Watching the Challenge Cup this afternoon and something I'd not seen before - an analyst on the pitch during the actual game (though a brief break in play before the kick-off).
