Kate Silverton continuing on the News Channel after the News at one. I imagine someone else will take over at 2.

Perhaps they are anticipating needing to fill on the news channel at 6 because of Wimbledon.

Samatha Simmonds presenting on the Newschannel for the first time, excluding world simulcasts, this evening. She is the 6th (9th if including BBC1 and dateline) to present from E this weekend.

It's odd seeing someone on a different channel. For a moment I thought it was Sarah Mack (North Tonight, Landward, The One Show). I know she hasn't been a newsreader for a long time but that's what registered in my brain seeing a familiar face in an unusual setting.

How long has Samantha Simmonds been reporting for BBC News on a domestic channel?

Yesterday was her first domestic shift in E. She has been working on BBC World News bulletins otherwise, some which have been NC simulcasts.

We're definitely in summer season when Behnaz Akhgar from BBC Wales covered the mid-morning weather shift inc. Derbyshire this morning.

They'll live to regret that.

Utter stupidity to end double headed presentation in it's entirety my view. Completley agree with 623058.

I'm really not getting the substantial costs they are saving through this in the grand scheme of things and the benefit far outweighs the cost for me. BBC News Channel, which I have such admiration for is continually taking a hammering and it's such a shame.

Completely agree. A few years back Sky went pretty much completely single headed and it hasn't' been the same since. In the past 18 months they've brought back double headed presentation in the morning with Colin Brazier and Jayne Secker and it has worked wonders for that slot.

Of course when setting budgets and justifying spend like the BBC has to do these days, it is presumably extremely difficult to justify double headed pres from a cost perspective but from a viewers perspective it adds so much more than the bland, dull single headed presentation that we are getting more and more use to.
