The Sky2 HD logo wasn't in print was it? It was a break bumper that appeared for a short while, as though it was a teaser.

I was trying to find it, now you've started making me do it again!

It says it all when Sky haven't even bothered to launch it in HD, despite there being a Sky2 HD logo printed doing the rounds some time ago.

There was also a Sky3 HD logo (based on the Sky3 logo which was on screen for literally a few weeks) - I wouldn't read in to that too much.

I doubt that Sky would ever give Pick an HD simulcast for the timebeing, it serves as a shop window for Freeview viewers, and it doesn't add value for Sky/VM customers. Probably until HD channel running costs decrease, and having enough capacity on Freeview to launch Pick HD.

As for that Sky3 HD logo - was it there to demonstrate the new branding along with all of the other Sky channels? Probably so in my eyes.

Pick HD is extremely unlikely, even if switch over to MPEG-4 ever happens.

You're probably not far off with the Sky 3 HD logo, not something they ever had any real intention of doing.

I do hope that they do make some sort of effort with the channel eventually, even if it is changing it to something like Sky Bravo and being some sort of male orientated channel. It could even get promoted to 121 on the EPG to give it a chance beside the ITV channels.

I genuinely thought this channel had closed. I guess that proves the point of this thread title!

I think you mean 122 (currently Sky Living+1). I doubt they'd move Sky Arts HD from 121, as it's a popular channel.

Oh yes, forgot about Arts being on 121. I thought it was Living+1 that was there. Silly me!

It does seem odd to have a +1 channel on page 3 of the EPG, while Sky2 is down on page 4.

Strangely, while Sky Living+1 is on LCN122, Sky1+1 is placed on LCN130. It would make more sense to have Sky2 on 122, and then have Sky1+1 and Sky Living+1 on 129 and 130.

Another case of a channel that was rundown for years before closure was M&M. After its removal on Freeview, ITV began to run it down with a mire of repeats, moved down the Sky EPG, and it also wasn't associated with the rest of the ITV channel family. Around the same time certain M&M programmes popped up on ITV4. The final blow was when the M&M bandwidth and EPG slot was used to operate ITV HD as a simulcast of the main channel.

When first launched twenty years ago next week it was hailed as a flagship sister channel to Sky One. I recall it was to smart cable providers, a la Sky Atlantic now. I've no idea why it was rested after a year to make way for National Geographic Channel.

Next week is not a Sky 2 anniversary. It is actually in December. What is now Sky 2 is not the original Sky Two, which launched alongside a couple of other channels but only lasted a year or so. What is now Sky 2 was originally Sky One Mix, which eventually morphed into Sky Mix and later became Sky 2.

The problem I think with Sky2 has is that there's no HD channel, no promotions for the channel and especially, not a single original programme.

Sky 2 was never intended to have original programming. Sky 1 has had the lion's share of BSkyB's original programming budget across all the channels. I doubt adding a HD version will improve things.

Maybe they should close down Sky2 and Pick. They clearly don't know what to do with them.

I wouldn't say Pick should close, because it seems to make money from the Sky archives, while clearly it serves to promote the Sky brand to Freeview and Freesat households. It also does get content from Sky channels 12 - 18 months after original showing. For example, Blue Bloods used to show on Atlantic from launch and only now it is being planned to show on Pick next week.

Sky2 has really lost its way, but it does Sky a good service of making money through an archive of shows.
