Yes, I'm sure it's the first time in the Summer Olympics. Of course the Winter Olympics in 2010 and 2014 have pioneered having the flame lit in one place and then a second 'public' flame being lit also.
Yes, it's the first blue track. As you say Gareth it just doesn't 'look' right at all. His just doesn't feel like an Olympic athletics session. The empty stadium, the blue track and the sparing use of the Olympic 'look' makes it all feel like just another world championships.
Mentioned already, but the non-dynamic Virgin EPG is especially useless with these eight Olympics channels because of how wrong the schedule can be at any one time. A bit like the old days I suppose, flicking through the channels to find something rather than relying on a guide. (Unless you were especially determined and got up the now and next overlay on teletext).
"The fastest man on no legs" was another one of his classics. Of course events since then means there's plenty of other unflattering terms to describe the person Ortis was talking about.
Most events seem to have been half-empty, it's really hurt the atmosphere. I hope it's not the case in Tokyo in 4 years time.
I wouldn't worry. Japan has hosted three previous Olympic Games to sold out audiences. As someone planning on going to Tokyo I wouldn't mind if it was a bit easier to get tickets!
I really wish they'd change how they rank the medal table. Even though we've done better than some teams above us, we rank lower because we haven't got as many golds. We have over twice as many medals as Hungary, even though they're currently 2 places above us, and more medals than Australia and South Korea (twice as many silvers as Oz, and 3 times as many as South Korea, and 2 more bronzes than SK) who are 4th and 5th. A 3-2-1 points system really is the best way to go.
Just put on BBC One at 7pm to see Andy Murray, did BBC Two show the match before hand?
Yes, they were with it from about 18:15, start of the third set. Prior to that BBC Four were showing it on quite a delay.
The first five games of the match were online only. The red button stream labelled tennis (RB1) was showing a basketball group match between Serbia and China, and they switched it over quite abruptly.
