We've heard about the proposed merger of World and the News channel, but for a few moments this afternoon we had a merger of Sky News and BBC News. News channel crossed to Theresa May's supporters outside the commons expecting some reaction/comment to her Tory leadership race and seemed to mistake Jon Craig from Sky News doing a piece back to Osterley as one of her backers, to the amusement of his former colleague Simon McCoy.

Why would he be standing in front of the collection of press microphones?

I would assume their microphone was already in position and it was more convenient to have him stand there?

If Studio B wasn't getting used yesterday then WBR at the BOTH will be using Studio C and clash directly with the News at 5.

It doesn't look as realistic as ITV News's green screen based studio

Looks as if it were created on MS Paint and rendered on powerpoint.. Then again, anything created in-house by the BBC looks amateur compared to ITN/SKY

I often wondered if the studio render was an early version of what they thought the studio looked like because the real one has differences like the three screens for example and the higher studio wall.

Has this one ever been used domestically? I would find it hard to believe that it was created for three episodes of shows that were broadcast in California.

I think it looks much better minus the ugly desk that KCET provided.

It used to be used for the BBC News at 9 every day, but since the NC now take Outside Source/World News Today at 9pm it's generally no longer seen.

Why are they using an old TOTH countdown on that clip?

Talking Business on Saturday evening appeared to be a 720p upscale to 1080i, complete with black bars which wasn't the case when broadcast on BBC World News.

KCET never bothered to update it until this past year.

KCET never changed it until late 2015. They never even changed the outro either.

Yeah, it was earlier this year. I always liked the BBC News website plug with the ASCII helicopter.

No, that does look a whole lot better than the virtual set they use in A now.

That said, I don't think A looked to bad when BBC London were in there other than the catwalk area. That needs a white floor so dark trousers don't disappear into it.

Surely it would be possible to use photographs of the real Studio C as a basis for a new virtual one rather than these rather obvious renders?

It's not been used as a bulletin set, but a modified version was used for the 2014 US election graphics

Also, Gavin Esler used a virtual set of Studio B for Newsnight, but I can't find a clip or image to see if it was similar.
