I wasn't sure if Yeovil was HTV West or Westcountry!
Your right it is HTV but you could have gotten away with Waymouth.
Its strange how small that region is, since its only Cornwall, Devon and half of dorset. Yet Somerset is controlled by HTV, while the other half of Dorset is TVS.
Mind you it wouldn't be the FIRST itv company to try and nick viewers from other ITV areas.

Because the word LONDON is in the animation? They actually could, there's a version called Daytime.

Well, then, explain it. It's gone over my head as well; just like the sun in the ident

Loving these. Look as legit as the actual Carlton & Central ones.
I do think though that if Carlton had already taken over Westcountry by the time it had commissioned Lambie-Nairn to create new idents back in 1996, then L-N would've probably come up with a different design. The good thing about the words CARLTON & CENTRAL is that they're a similar length, both begin with C, both have a T near the middle and each have an A, either the second or second to last character in a wonderful mirror image coincidence. WESTCOUNTRY is more awkward. Despite having tons of variants and there being designs unique to either Carlton or Central, the two most important idents were the ITV one and Broadcasting A, which were common to both stations. WESTCOUNTRY has two Ts in it, so the ITV ident could theoretically be done but unlike CARLTON and CENTRAL, neither T is very central (no pun intended), which would mean the resultant ITV logo being off centre. They could've perhaps designed around that and made the T move to the centre during the animation sequence but the transition wouldn't be as graceful. Broadcasting A, probably the most important and flexible ident in the set would be out of the question as there's no A. Although a very good effort, Broadcasting W simply doesn't work for me. The A is supposed to represent a transmitter. I can't see what other letter could replace it.
Now a GRANADA Broadcasting A ident. That I'd love to see.

Apologies - could not find the actual audio in a downloadable format for love nor money (although it has to be said I offered neither).
I know that the animation of the 'waves' is very different as in the original they don't overlap, but I decided to do it this way as it makes the effect a bit more three dimensional.
