What would have made far more sence if there had just replace the I with U thus aligning the UTV branding with ITV.
The problem with that would be, when it eventually came to switching from UTV to ITV, it would be too subtle a change.
Isn't that what they would want? Some people wouldn't notice, and therefore they wouldn't be critisised so heavily. Not to mention the savings they will reap with the signage, etc.

I suspect ITV would be quite happy with a result like that, where they'd switch to ITV branding and hardly anyone noticed. Everyone knows what the ultimate goal is here and ITV will be wanting to achieve it as painlessly as possible.
I'm a bit confused by all this and can only assume it's an interim position. ITV has been relatively cautious when it's come to the nations. The rebrand from HTV to ITV was sellable on the basis that it would be called ITV1 Wales (with HTV being a relatively meaningless name in the 21st century) and would retain continuity. Am I right in saying it no longer has Wales and the continuity has gone?
I can only assume this is an interim position until all the complicated areas - output for Belfast/Ireland, keeping politicians sweet over the name, how to handle UTV Ireland, which can't just carry the ITV network output - are sorted.
Still amused by the fact that if you took the dot out of the ITV logo it would pretty much be a UTV logo ready to go, but it wouldn't be distinct enough from ITV so obviously isn't an option.
Given that things like "ITV HTV" were specificaly avoided in the past...
...I doubt that anything like your second example would be chosen.
In light of the fact that we have:
ITV News Anglia
ITV News Central
ITV News Channel TV
ITV News Granada Reports
ITV News Meridian
ITV News Tyne Tees
...I can't see any obstacle to ITV News UTV Live. In fact, if they go to the trouble of implementing an ITV News set and title sequence - undoubtedly in an attempt to reinforce the ITV News brand, I doubt very much that they will omit the 'ITV News' branding from any new title sequence.

And although the logo can be amended it doesn't look that great TBH and is too long to be used in association with ITV's current branding. As Whataday shows in his mocks the new Utv logo is similar in size to the ITV logo so can be slapped over it when required.
I wonder if ITV will keep the UTV website and all the references to it on network shows or as a compromise launch itv.com/utv?

I have to say I agree. 'ITV News UTV Live' certainly looks and sounds no worse than 'ITV News Channel TV' et al. Although I'm not a fan of these names, at least there's consistency.

I meant that if the UTV version became too established, would viewers not still read the ITV version as UTV, if the change was too subtle?
