My phone is useless at copying and pasting URLs but ITV have said it "fully intends" to renew the contracts for both shows.

Bugger.

What Cowell might be tempted to do though is take Britain's Got Talent elsewhere, though really the only other place it would work is BBC1 and I can't see them paying sufficiently to keep production at the same level as it is now - although that said I think they have cut the number of cities hosting the judges auditions this year to just Birmingham and London which doesn't do the show any favours at all.

In the current climate its very unlikely the BBC would pay a premium for a bought-in format. They've learned from the experience of The Voice.

I know it's a very different type of show, but they picked up Men Behaving Badly when ITV dropped it and it was a huge success. Not to encourage the BBC to poach another crap talent show, but I can't remember another time where the BBC picked up something a commercial channel dropped.

That was a very different time, and a very different situation. Far more like the BBC picking up University Challenge or This is Your Life.

Ah, forgot about those two. As I say, I know it's a far cry from something they'd do now. Although I would've liked to have seen Great Night Out get picked up.

Maybe ITV are just buying them to keep them out of the hands of everyone else, its not like its the first time that happened.

Well predictably they're fiddling with the judges line up once more...

Nick Grimshaw will not return as X Factor judge
Grimmy will not be returning as a judge on the X Factor this year.

He confirmed the news on his Radio 1 Breakfast show saying he quit the show and wasn't fired.

...though I rather suspect he 'quit' in the same way that Dermot 'left' the show.

Also worth noting that ITV have recently said they intend to continue both the X Factor and BGT into 2017 and beyond, ref http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsbeat/article/35499586/x-factor-to-continue-into-2017-and-beyond-despite-the-voice-switching-to-itv.

Such a shame, I think Nick was scapegoated a lot for what was a pretty dismal year in general. He was actually really good.

Only way forward for the show now, as far as I'm concerned, is to ditch Simon and Cheryl. The biggest criticism I hear of the show is that it's the same old every year. Ditch those 2, get James Blunt on board, and overhaul the look of the show as well is what I'd do.

Agree - Simon returning has done the show no favours at all. Nick, Caroline and Olly will probably all be scapegoats but the problems with the show were evident before and will still be there after too.

Caroline out too but not Olly from what I gather.

Not sure who I'd bring in as host apart from bringing back Dermot. Cowell was so careless there.

I really missed Dermot last year. I think he gave the show a lot more credibility than it maybe deserves. His being-quite-sensible held it together but Caroline and especially Olly severely lacked that.

Vernon Kay would be good, but it would be at odds with his image as a presenter on Radio X in the week to then go and front something truly vaccous at the other end of the spectrum.
