I strongly feel that BBC World should be funded by the licence fee and broadcast to the UK in addition to the world in general. Then, News 24 could be relaunched as "BBC Domestic", a UK-centric service more deeply covering issues and stories affecting the UK.
At times of breaking news, "Domestic" could screen an aston advising viewers to switch to World. If the story was especially serious, both channels could both cover it at once, but from different perspectives. For example, World could broadcast 'hard news' and occasional interviews, whilst Domestic could have more analysis and news of how the story will impact the UK.

Anyone remember that phrase "not distinctive"

God just get it on Hotbird if you're that desperate to watch the thing.

That all sounds unnecessarily complicated, and can you see licence payers being happy about funding two news channels from the BBC?

When the Weather Channel Closed Down (late 90s) I started watching several News Channels, and I found Sky News interesting

The relaunch in 2002(ish) made me not watch Sky News as much, but now its just like Fox News without the c*** presenters.

I only like BBC World because the International News & the Presenters.

I'm not a big fan of the three main UK news channels at the moment.

Sky News was the best channel by a mile, but seems to have gone banal, just like the other two channels.

I don't think Rupert Murdoch being to pleased either. Remember he took out an injunction to try to prevent the launch of News24.

I remember that Sky were not at all happy, what they did to Cable operators, as they were carrying News 24 when it launched in 1997, BSkyB decided to drop the carriage price of Sky News and to hike up the price of Sky One to make up for it in order for cable companies to encourage people to watch Sky News.

I don't know why they were so worried.
