I think one of the points of changing to go to the auditions was to get away from that, personally I think it's largely been successful.

As I said earlier nearly all the contestants on this Clarkson version, seem to have well paid jobs like legal ones or are at least very comfortable. A waitress earning £16,000 and being really excited will always be more interesting than a Doctor winning £125,000. The show doesn’t need sob stories but it does need people for who winning money means something.

But it does need to be a balance because you do need some people who can afford to take the occasional gamble.

Maybe ditching fastest finger again is the way to go to ensure they can strike a good balance.

Personally I think the balance is better than you, but I take your point. I think those people are getting cast but not always in the chair so I guess the only true solution is to get rid of FFF as you say. As the show is less waffly these days, I don't think we find out as much about the contestants good or bad

When is the new civilian Clarkson run airing?

Probably not until the other side of the virus. I think maybe one or two were recorded before Christmas along with the celebs, but there was due to be a lot of recording just before lockdown that got postponed.

Oh so Clarkson saying they’re back next week wasn’t right? Because filming was cancelled? Odd they didn’t edit that reference out.

He said 'next time' at the end of the celebrity special.

I believe there is a civilian run ready for broadcast.

I see, so they were recorded on 9th and 10th September and were due to air the following Saturday 15th and Tuesday 18th?

Yes, and as mentioned the episode that ended up going out on the Saturday was the first half of the intended episode and the second half of Tuesday's intended episode. As I say, one happy side-effect is that the film that was scheduled to follow it on Saturday had to be changed because it was Daylight and considered unsuitable after 9/11, so it was replaced by a different, shorter film, so it being a rather raggedly edited Millionaire, longer than billed, didn't seem too unusual given all the schedule shuffling.

Meanwhile across the channel. Millionaire social distancing addition is coming.

Forgive my ignorance but my French simply is not good enough to understand the concept from that clip. I know 'maison' is house but that's about as far as I've got, though I imagine I could also have a guess at 'des Millions'. Are they having both the host and contestant appearing via video link from their respective homes?

It's literally "Who wants to win millions at home"

"Qui Veut Gagner Des Millions À La Maison ?" - "Who Wants To Win Millions At Home?"

The first part of the name, I believe, comes from when the show was in Francs, and the top prize was 3 / 4 million Francs.

Hmm, I wonder how they'll police family members being in the room/googling the answer etc.

I’m pretty sure like most French episodes these days it’ll only be a celebrity one for charity, so I think that would reduce the temptation.

They could also set a second camera up in the corner of the room, although I think they’re going to have to rely on the good will of the contestants.

Just wondering to all the WWTBAM fans on the forum (like me), do you prefer the 2007 rave remix music or the original 1998 package? For me it’s definitely the original music but I’ve heard others really like the remixed theme tune.

I would say I prefer the original theme tune, but the proper original edit before they shortened it before remixing it.
Owen A and SuperSajuuk gave kudos
