I wonder what the new UTV+1 DOG will look like. As the +1 is in a small circle for ITV, will a further small circle be added to the new logo or will it be under the circle? I doubt they will do what UTV did originally and slap a '+1' in Aerial font beside the DOG!

I wonder what the UTV HD logo (if they've made one) will look like?

Dual running at the moment.

Of course, ITV are committed under the terms of their deal with Virgin Media to continue to play out UTV Ireland until TV3 are ready to take that over (or not, as the case may be), so ITV won't be able to close the Belfast playout operation until that happens.

Why couldn't they play it out from Chiswick or Leeds?

They could, but assuming that TV3 will be taking control in the near future, they might as well leave it in Belfast for now.

Don't think there will be one. There isn't an ITV HD logo for the current logo although there was an ITV1 HD logo before the rebrand.

What does this mean? Is it that ITV are playing out new UTV continuity, but it isn't bring broadcast yet?

There is a logo with "hd" in the circle but I think it was dropped from the DOG so I think you're right that it'll be the same logo on both versions.

Glad though it's made an appearance now which hopefully quashes the rumours that the brand was to go sooner rather than later - always thought people had completely misinterpreted that report a few months back.

They could, but why bother spending money putting the arrangements for that in place for the relatively short period they'll need to do it? I'm not privy to the economics of both options of course to know which is actually cheaper.

The reason I posed the question is because there is an ITV HD logo on the Youview EPG in England, and a UTV HD logo on the YV EPG in Northern Ireland.

Given that the ITV HD logo uses the dot for the HD, and the new UTV logo uses the dot for the TV... it makes me wonder how they'll achieve a UTV HD logo. Perhaps they just won't bother.

Exactly. Both playout centres running the same schedule in tandem, in order to identify and rectify any problems prior to Chiswick taking over fully.

Exactly. I would imagine that Ericsson charge ITV for playing out additional channels. Makes sense to get them to playout UTV, as that's going to be a long-term arrangement. But it wouldn't make sense to pay them to set up for playout of UTV Ireland, when the goal is to offload that channel. While ITV own their own (only) playout facility (i.e. UTV playout), they may as well use it.

So it's definitely going to Chiswick then and not Leeds? Are the continuity announcers going to stay when they switch over fully or will Chiswick just have separate but pre-recorded continuity for UTV?

Definitely Chiswick from what I've heard, but I've no idea what the short or long term plans are for the announcers. We know that they've hired a couple of Northern Irish announcers in London (make of that what you will).

Of course they aren't going to keep the announcers. ITV will sack off any regional distinctiveness (and programming commitments) as fast as they can get away with.
