I notice UKTV have been running a lot of trailers for their original series on W for the last week or so- trying to remind us that the channel still exists?

I can see the UKTV network continuing for many more years to come. As long as their channels are hitting the marks they need to keep them successful, any speculation of the network closing is wrong.

Just remember, in 2017 the UKTV network recorded profits of £91 million! So I have a feeling the network is here to stay.

There is no speculation of the network closing. The network is due to split as this thread has made clear.

So has the demerger not been kicked into the long grass?

No, why would it?

Will the UKTV name continue to exist or will the BBC have to find a new brand for their channels?

There's no reason not to retain it - Discovery won't have a need for it. Though the channels don't use the brand in their names any more anyway. The only service that actually has UKTV in the name is the VOD platform, UKTV Play, which will probably merge with iPlayer.

The names of the constituent parts will be part of the split deal. It wouldn't surprise me if the removal of the name WAS included in the deal so that it's residual effect on perception wasn't gained by the company (presumably the BBC) acquiring the channels following it's split or demerger.

The break up was still on the cards as of February:
