Firstly, That clip just postage isn't live, it was broadcast at 23.30 that night. To be fair, Channel 4 racing theme was called "Midweek racing" because when it first started it was just the midweek racing ch4 had. Not surprised ITV used it since it a good we tune. Ch4 racing is ITV racing at the heart of it it wasnt until the mid/late 90s then ch4 got full control, personnel during the last 10 years I think it went down hill.
Im shock to learn that midweek racing was created in 1982!

Well to be fair I wasn't born in 1991 so I didn't realise that was a late night repeat rather than live coverage.
Did c4 racing use the ITV Sport branding up to 1993, when Channel 4 was effectively ITV2 in certain respects?
I can't remember when it ceased to be an ITV production for C4 ? That Racing Post article mentions that ITV initially paid to mount the OBs and the other costs. Perhaps it changed after the demise of World of Sport, and racing transferring to C4 on Saturdays ? Was that when YTV, Thames, and Anglia formed '3 on 4' ?

It was still a Thames production in 1987.

It wasn't until the demise of Thames and Anglia sold off their OB fleet after the 92 franchise round that production really separated from ITV Sport (hence why there is still a notable ex-Thames and ex-Anglia presence on the OB crew). I don't remember seeing any 3 on 4 branded stuff until after that split By the mid 90's the ITV link had all but gone completely, with the production based in it's own offices in Teddington, and being facilitated by Global (later to be bought by Visions) who had bought the Anglia and Thames OB fleets, later to be formalised by the formation of Highflyer.
Loss of franchise, not demise. Thames still exists to this day.
