Is the BBC Olympic studio in the UK?

The windowed studio used by Clare Balding in the evenings is - it's in Salford (You can see Old Trafford, home of Manchester United, in the back of shot!).

There is - I believe - a small single camera studio in Korea which can be used by the presenters out there (who work overnight and early morning I think?)

Never mind the whole Winter Olympics thread which has discussed all of this.

Ofcom has today released a statement about the BBC's broadcast of the Commonwealth Games in April.
Quote:
Ofcom has received a request from the BBC for consent to broadcast exclusive live coverage of the Commonwealth Games 2018 (“the Games”). These are due to take place in Gold Coast City, Australia between 4 and 15 April 2018.

The BBC plans to broadcast coverage of the Games on BBC One and/or BBC Two (and their interactive streams). In addition, the BBC intends provide live and delayed commentary on BBC Radio 5 Live. Daily highlights of the Games are to be provided by Eurosport, and it is intended that Eurosport will also provide delayed coverage.

Is it something to do with it being a listed event?

Presumably because, as a listed event, they need to inform Ofcom so they can rule whether their planned coverage fulfils their criteria of availability. Which it clearly does, but they need to rubber-stamp it.

Yes - that would be my reading of it. I suspect all Crown Jewel event coverage needs to be run by Ofcom (that may be how the Crown Jewels legislation is enforced ?)

"The Commonwealth Games are a ‘Group B’ Listed Event, so Ofcom’s consent is needed for exclusive live coverage." -Ofcom

How does it rate for them. Obviously Moto GP has it's fanbase and I think they're pretty dedicated but can't see it having wide appeal really - nobody has really missed it since it left the BBC.

Some of the world feed graphics on France v Italy tonight seemed to be in French?

Three of Ireland’s four main terrestrial channels (RTE2, TV3, and TG4) are all showing rugby union simultaneously tonight. You’d pity the poor Saorview-only viewer who doesn’t like the sport!
