The end of Carlton (and LWT too, it seems)

Online at least... (January 2004)

This site closed in March 2021 and is now a read-only archive

Debated whether or not to start a thread about this, but anyways.

It appears the death of Carlton has started already, three days before ITV comences trading...

Westcountry and Central's websites have had a makeover, and the Carlton star and logo are gone. At the top of the pages, the old regional names - Central and Westcountry - are back.

Carlton London's website now just says "London" too - the Carlton name is being completly dropped there too.

It appears from the programme statement for 2004 that under ITV plc, Carlton Television and LWT will no longer exist as seperate companies. There is a joint Carlton/LWT (or ITV London as it is refered to now) programme statement for 2004. The statement says that there will be a joint managing director of Carlton Television and LWT and a single management structure.

Where does this leave LWT as a production brand?

www.carlton.com seems to be as normal, star and all.

All mention of HTV seems to have been removed from their website, and the 'company' is now being refered to as "ITV WALES", with "ITV1WALES" being the channel.

HURRAH! Very Happy Let me get the champagne out!! Good to have our regional names back, in one form or another!

Well, as CARLTON used to stand for "Calling All Real Londoners Turn Off Now" we'll have to rename it "CARLYCTBON" - "Calling All Real Londoners You can Turn Back On Now!"

Of course that doesn't really work for people in Westcountry and Central regions, but glad to see they've decided to reinstate the regional names...

I suppose it will remain in the short-term to be replaced by something like "Granada Productions" eventually.

www.itvplc.com looks like being the new corporate site, though the logo isn't the corporate logo as announced.

Yes, some bits of the Carlton Westcountry site seem to be around still... mainly the graphics and a few Carlton logos still lurking, but give them time...

The new name has been put on the main page - just "WESTCOUNTRY" written in a Eurostyle sort of font in the ITV1 colours (yellow with blue background) - can't copy it here for some strange reason....

And all mentions of Carlton in the text have now been removed, replaced with ITV1 Westcountry, even in the company name and details!
