How about getting rid of the cash builder round and having set amounts to keep it more even for all players?

5 Chasers - £100k
4 Chasers - £50k
3 Chasers - £25k
2 Chasers - £10k

The Chasers themselves pick the amount of time they want to offer. It would also help cut down a lot of the chatter in between rounds so there's more quizzing and excitement rather than rules being explained and reexplained for every contestant.

Problem with that is - it doesn't grade the offers or time based on how many correct questions the contestant answers in the cashbuilder round making everyone's game exactly the same = quickly dull.

Nail all 5 correct, or just blunder through and answer the first question - it would make no difference.

But we're already getting that. Majority of people are getting just one or two right in the cash builder, yet the offers they got were vastly different.

At the moment it doesn't matter how well you do in the cash builder round, because the final offers are so different.

I would have the cash builder round where all five questions are asked, and the amount you answer correctly is the base amount you will play for. ie Five questions right for £5,000 down to one right for £1,000

Therefore.

2 Chasers, the amount in your cash builder
3 Chasers, double the amount of your cash builder
4 Chasers, your cash builder amount times 10
5 Chasers, your cash builder amount times 20

So to have a chance at £100,000 you have got to get all five questions right in the cash builder.
The amount of time the chasers have will be decided by the chasers.

I'm just throwing my idea into the ring.

But you could say all this about the main show too. You’re missing the basic premise of the Chasers setting the offer. It depends on the player and they vary it accordingly.

Yes, I think they have to vary it a bit to keep the dynamic even if it is often unfair. I guess one thing about the show being cut together in random order is in theory the offers aren't increasing as the show goes on, as happens in the main show often regardless of individual performance.

One thing about it being cut together with contestants throughout the filming period that I was wondering was whether at some point they changed from fairly random time intervals to 5 second intervals (or vice versa) as on the opening night the first couple were like 40, 50 and 55 seconds and that happened once or twice last night, but then all of a sudden we were getting things like 36, 43 and 51 seconds.

Not really keeping track of it but are the higher higher offers offering less time than the higher offers of around £50k?

I like the sound of something like this. For all I'm enjoying watching the programme, I don't like that it makes no difference how well you do in the cash builder. There's only two rounds, and one of them's pointless. How ever you look at it, that's a flaw in the format. Something like this would actually give an incentive to do well in the cash builder.

There was a programme which has probably been largely forgotten about (even among 'enthusiasts' such as ourselves) called For The Rest Of Your Life with Nicky Campbell. Sort of Deal Or No Deal but with red/white lights if you can imagine something so wondrous. It had two rounds. In the first, you built up money. In the second, this figure was multiplied and multiplied as you went up the ladder. It meant that pretty much every game gave away different sums of money but it always seemed fair as it was directly related to how well you did in the first round. I think this sort of set-up could work well on BTC.

The composer (Paul Farrer) has put the Beat the Chasers Theme on YouTube

Don’t know if I’m the only one, but, the vast majority of his theme tunes all sound similar, if not the same. Elements of Dancing on Ice, The Weakest Link and RHOC, feature prominently in most of his themes.

Surely in this case it's supposed to be similar to The Chase's theme? Though I do think it's weaker than the original show's theme.

Yeah it definitely is, but I can hear elements of Poker Face in it.

Here are the offers of cash / time for each contestant so far. In spoilers obviously.

But the contestant so far who answered most questions in the cash builder hasn't had the highest offer. I guess this happens in the daytime show as well though.

Show 1

Contestant 1 - £3,000 cash builder, highest offer £90,000 (50 seconds)
Contestant 2 - £2,000 cash builder, highest offer £40,000 (45 seconds)
Contestant 3 - £3,000 cash builder, highest offer £100,000 (55 seconds)
Contestant 4 - £2,000 cash builder, highest offer £75,000 (53 seconds)

Show 2

Contestant 1 - £2,000 cash builder, highest offer £75,000 (56 seconds)
Contestant 2 - £4,000 cash builder, highest offer £80,000 (50 seconds)
Contestant 3 - £2,000 cash builder, highest offer £50,000 (48 seconds)
Contestant 4 - £2,000 cash builder, highest offer £50,000 (39 seconds)

To my untrained ear I can tell it’s similar to Poker Face, I wouldn’t have said it was similar in anyway to The Weakest Link though
