ITV, of course, has to be careful. It cannot advertise the availability of ITV1 in the STV region.

I was thinking about that when reading this thread the other day, but what would the possibilty be for ITV to put either ITV1 Tyne Tees & Border or ITV1 London on DTT in Scotland? ITV Plc owns the space to these slots after STV and UTV sold them off sometime ago.

I give it to STV for having a go at some more local programmes and opt out's the schedule, but Scottish viewers shouldn't be deprived of the rest of ITV1 especially programmes like The Bill.

We aren't deprived of The Bill as we have the option of watching it on ITV1 or ITV 3 for Freeview viewers.

Unless your Die hard fan, would anyone actully go looking for the shows? or will people be happy with stv output

More than likely, although I didn't watch any of these shows anyway, so I can't say.

I think the problem is that ITV have become too big and with that, seem to think that the channel 3 network should be dictated by them, regardless as to whether or not they have any right to dictate to another licencee or not. Perhaps, as the banks and other organisations have had to, ITV should be forced to break up again to small independent companies.

Like two spreate companies?

the whole point of letting them get into the same bed was to make it more profitable and ti make it easier for other companies to buy them over.

What about France? Germany? Sweden? do there have local regional tv?

ITVplc doesn't own space on a PSB multiplex in Scotland... STV does but sublets the space to ITVplc for ITV2 and ITV2+1. ITV3, ITV4 and the CITV Channel are broadcast on space rented by ITVplc on the commercial multiplexes. STV is bypassed completely..

Did STV not sell the rights of ITV2 to ITV? I remember a court case and S2 and stv got some money for it

The Sun and the Daily Mail - the most popular and third most popular daily papers in Scotland - still run features and previews on ITV1 programmes dropped by STV even though the listings are changed. So does the Radio Times and the cheap tv guides. The 7 day tv guides in all four of the UK quality Saturday papers (which between them sell almost as many copies as The Herald and The Scotsman combined) all carry ITV1 network listings in the third column and not STV's. Meanwhile The Press and Journal and the Aberdeen Evening Express carry ITV1 London variations now! If promotion like that does not gather some sort of audience then the press officers at every broadcaster ought to be made redundant!

What are the four main UK quality Saturday papers?

In the Sun there have only the STV listing but with ITV in a box underneath,
in the Daily mail mag it say ITV but it has the listing for STV!

I simply do not accept that there is not a market in Scotland for ITV1 network drama, the FA Cup and England internationals (and possibly even Alan Titchmarsh!!) even if it is in STV's best interests to show something else and no bad thing for viewers to have a choice.

I dare say you right, but I still believe STV has dumped them because STV is owned money but ITV and when STV when the court case and get back the money its owned. i dare say we will see some more for the dramas returning

No, like the 15 or so separate companies we used to have that were a part of the ITV network. The current set-up has allowed ITV plc to become too powerful. It's quite clear they're going to do everything in their power to get back at STV for opting out. What right do they have to comment on another licencee opting out of the network? Hence, they are too big a company.

How many drama programmes are STV airing throughout the whole of November, excluding soaps?

Murderland last Monday and Damage last Thursday, and then presumably nothing until the 2nd week of December (if that)?

Is that really serving the needs of STV viewers?

I am all in favour of that...then we can dump STV in North Scotland and get local tv back in this area!
