Cat: "And remember when we went to pick our rings?"
Ant: "We had to cut this line"

They'd already done the "get Cat's ring on my finger" joke on the wedding episode, having to stop Mark Lamarr from making a quip.

Watching through those final three episodes, Liberty X seem to be a permanent presence... in both the live episodes and archive sketches. As much as Westlife had been in the earlier years. Who remembers them now, though?

Jonathan Wilkes at Dec's stag do and wedding too... he was everywhere for a while, then he just vanished as well. I guess that's one thing that can be said of Saturday morning shows- they're an invaluable archive of many here today, gone tomorrow celebs and trends.

I'd forgotten how good Cat Deeley is as a presenter from watching the Story of SMTV Live. I think had she not moved to the US in the mid 2000s, she probably would have gotten a lot of primetime gigs on ITV and other channels although now she's moved back, I would expect she'll have no problems getting presenting gigs.

She had loads of primetime gigs before she went to make her fortune in the states. She was definitely one of the top presenters at the time. Female wise, second to Davina maybe?

Is Cat actually back in the UK for good, or is she just over here for now because of covid?

Most of the opening title sequences https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=lnaqwc0xku8

Is it just me or does the first theme tune feel like a placeholder waiting for the classic theme by Steve Brown to be finished?

Possibly, or possibly they just used the same theme as CD:UK seeing as it was meant to be a CD:UK pre-show, then commisioned something else after it became clear that idea wasn't working, or just felt SM:TV needed more identity. Does seem to be a mess though, all the "wake up, get up, Saturday" seems like a cacaphony... which is probably why they got rid of those parts after a couple of shows.

A shame there doesn't seem to be clips of the pre-titles sequence from those first few weeks with Ant waking up in a strange place and screaming out there, apart from the last couple of seconds of him in the back of a van I posted a few pages back. I wish they'd shown at least one of two of them in the documentry, that was a genuinely funny and creative part of those early shows.

The Steve Brown classic just seems to fit those titles so much better, like it's been made around them. The dog doesn't even bark in the original.

I think the very first one of those pre titles was Dec and Cat getting ready at home and Ant wakes up on a canoe in the middle of a very nice part of the thames.

It might have been, can't remember exactly which one was on the first episode all these years later! I remember him waking up on a roof and in a field surrounded by cows as well. That YouTube video with him in the back of the van is dated as being the 3rd October episode, which was the sixth week, so there must be at least two others.

The only other pre titles I can remember is in the last days at TLS in 2003 and in 2001 where Ant has a fantastic idea for an early April fools joke - luckily it didnt' involve fainting, he just pretended the studio had a powercut.

Yes, I remember the 2003 ones, I think they ran until the start of SM:TV gold, so were on the first couple of Riverside episodes too.
