While some are great Radio Broadcasters and some are great TV Broadcasters, Terry was both. I remember my parents being big fans of his and listening to him on the way to school on Radio 2 and initially I wanted to listen to Chris Moyles on Radio 1 but grew to love his work. The skill he had he still made the Eurovision watchable and his Children in Need work will be his lasting legacy.
The 1 o'clock News currently on BBC 1 has been extended to 30 minutes to give extended coverage.
Really - he's a broadcasting legend and all that but bigger events have had to be covered in the standard 5 minute weekend bulletins.
To many, including myself, this will be the public death that knocks us up more than any since Diana. It might appear shallow and self serving, but I shed a few tears this morning as will many have. The BBC's decisions today have been spot on.
Oh yes, no doubt about it people will care more about the loss of Wogan than some Royal figures - and I suspect the BBC would get far less complaints about tearing up their schedules for Wogan than they would in the event of the death of the Queen. There is a fine balance to be struck - I did feel with Bowie they probably tipped the balance but I'd expect something on the BBC either tonight or more likely tomorrow night in tribute to Wogan.
Listening back to Radio 2's 9am news, they broke the story halfway through the bulletin at about 9.03 - then at the end of the news, Mark Goodier began a tribute programme. It was originally scheduled to be Steve Wright's Sunday Love Songs - was Goodier already due to be presenting today's programme, or would he have been given a bit of a heads-up to come in in advance?

Sunday Love Songs is prerecorded midweek.

Possibly, or he may have done the programme from his home studio.
Mark Goodier is in for Steve Wright all next week so could have been pre-arranged for him to sit in anyway, although DigiGuide suggests it was supposed to be Steve Wright on this morning.

Agreed. I'm feeling it a lot today too. He seemed like an uncle/grandfather figure, such was his natural warmth and broadacsting manner. It's hard to adjust to the fact that he's gone.
I hope the BBC put together some tribute packages that reflect his humour, and not just the George Best / David Icke stuff that we've all seen before.
On the BBC News Channel earlier though, I'm sure Steve Wright said something about being told about the news just before he was due to come on air? Unless I've misinterpreted him it sounds like Sunday Love Songs was due to be live?
I was very impressed with how quickly Radio 2 managed to get a tribute programme together - there was something from the Radio 2 Press Office as soon as news of Sir Terry's death was announced, which perhaps explains why they managed to go straight in with the tribute programme.
