Had completely forgotten there were two incarnatrions of the Saturday Show. Seems very odd the CBBC channel competed against it for a relaunched second series.

There were actually 4 as the Saturday show went to summer only and reduced to 90 minutes. The final series in 2005 dident even have guests.

This may come as a shock but it was NEVER fully networked, since Channel never screened it and TT only broadcast the last series, while TVS and TSW both operated out. http://www.tiswasonline.com/look_in.php?details=off * all the gaps are know, but not been slotted into that table.

I believe Live and Kicking is the longest running Saturday Morning children's show as it lasted 8 years. Soccer AM and Saturday Kitchen will be the logest running what still on air sadley.

I think the argument is that SMTV was longer running since it had more episodes due to being on year round.

By that definition, The Chase is longer running than Who Wants To Be A Millionaire. Rolling Eyes

Live & Kicking was dragged out for years whilst SM:TV Live came and went (with a poof, you might say)

SM:TV did get bad towards the end, but I guess that had a bit to do with them knowing it was going to get axed and stopped trying. Stephen Mulhern was totally unsuited for the show when you look back at it really, I think he was just dragged in to fill the gap for the last few months after Brian & Tess left and Shavaugn vanished.

It's interesting you say that because it did feel at the time that after Tess and Brian left, they were just waiting around for it to be axed, but they did of course have a major set revamp and even introduced brand new opening titles that must have been on air for less than a year before SM:TV Gold.

Personally they made up for it all with the last episode. May not have been live but it is still one of my favourite "last episodes" of anything. Great ending.

Strangely I have to totally disagree there, I thought when Stephen and Des Clarke were on it it had signs of the old SMTV again after almost 2 years of to be honest complete dullness after Ant, Dec and Cat left in my opinion. Des especially was actually funny but like A&D likeable with it. Tess Daly - now that's one name I'll never know how they got hired, and let's not mention H & Claire! Personally I wish SMTV had continued with Stephen, Des and Holly instead of Ministry of Mayhem but you're at least one person who would disagree Razz

I think it was more like only 6 months, I think they were bought in around March, then SM:TV Gold began in September- so it was a very short lived titles set, maybe they weren't expecting to get axed at the time or they wouldn't have revamped. In fact I think it must say something really about how little they were trying when SM:TV Gold ran for 3 months rather than making proper episodes of the show, though at least it meant we got to see a lot of archive footage rather than just a few clips crammed into the final show.

Remember the show moved from the South Bank to Riverside at the end of August as well, and you could tell the area the SM:TV set had been shoved into was tiny- having to go outside for Eat My Goal, then having to move the audience into the CD:UK studio next door for the music performances.

And CD:UK itself seemed to go downhill quite rapidly after SM:TV was axed, it felt as if the show lost something through no longer being attached to the main Saturday morning show.

Well I wrote out a long reply to this but TVF went down and wouldn't let me jump back a page to what I'd written. Oh well.

I had no idea they moved out of the South Bank. If they mentioned it at the time then I missed it! Never come across that online either.

To me, CD:UK cut its ties with SM:TV as soon as they dropped the idea of having the same presenting teams for both shows (after Cat left SM:TV but continued CD:UK). I think it was fairly successful after SM:TV ended but reached its natural conclusion by the end, and of course ITV gave up on Saturday morning kids telly around the same time.
