Sky Cinema Disney is being renamed to Sky Cinema Five Star Movies but will retain some Disney movies in the beginning until their contracts expire. What an awful name for the channel.

It's a pity that Sky has decided not to renew it's contract with Disney to be honest.....

Sky technically still have a contract with Disney... +. I don't see it as much of a loss really, Sky customers can still get Disney movies on top of their already existing packages for an extra fee and the fee is pretty reasonable IMHO.

Sky Cinema Disney's end was writing on the wall when Disney+ was around anyway.

I highly doubt Sky had a choice. Disney are doing this everywhere globally aren't they to get people to sign up for Disney+.

Never would I thought Sky would use a name used on another television channel when Dirty Des owned Channel 5.

As others have stated, it was inevitable but it's not as if they haven't retained anything - they are for now the exclusive pay tv provider of Disney Plus and have retained pay tv rights on the 20th Century titles that are not appropriate for Disney Plus.

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/sky-more-choiceful-content-deals-1129487 - Sky's CEO stated...

"We essentially took what was in the past a pretty high fixed cost base focused either on Sky Cinema or a declining Disney Channels portfolio, and we have turned that into an a la carte app," which has "released a lot of cost in our base that we can deploy elsewhere."

Whether it's just spin or not, it does suggest they have done ok out of the deal, kept that content (and able to retail it) in some fashion and they have since then signed new deals with Entertainment One, Discovery and acquired Dreamworks content from their sister company.

It's still called 5Star now. CBSViacom just changed it from 5★ to spelling out the word. They should definitely have a problem with Sky Cinema Five Star Movies.

I doubt ViacomCBS will kick up a stink about what is, ultimately, a pop up channel name.

Except it isn't a pop up channel, is it? It's a rebrand for Sky Cinema Disney now that it won't be showing Disney films.

It Is

Apparently it'll only last one week, until it becomes Sky Cinema Premiere +1

It makes sense, Sky Cinema already has Animation, as a replacement of Disney

Didn't they get rid of Premiere+1 earlier this year?

Not just in Germany, according to trusted insiders and members of a forum, a few new Sky channels will launch in Italy in 2021, possibly as replacements of Disney entertainment and maybe documentary (Nat Geo's) channels, whose future is looking bleaker and bleaker
